alright, some 'gigs'

so here it is the end of august and the festival season of smoldering hot heat sun that we anointed christened and brought in and celebrated back in june at the eternal light festival has been chugging along like an overheated buick la saber on the terwilliger curves at rush hour, with lots of 'little' shows to play and watch and splash around in happening in between the big boats. the mixedest metaphors ever. on it goes into this weekend, white rainbow (now with additional trips! courtesy of curtis knapp on the rip synth dip loop vibe machines) plays at 7pm on friday at the disjecta hosted, mcgonigal/hylton curated halleluwah festival. 16 smackers a day gets you in the door. bring extra cash for site specific vinyl compilation, food, beer, merch, etc. yeah. lots of other fine acts playing look at halleluwah.org for more detailed informations.
valet, which of course is honey, is playing on the saturday of this festival, at 8pm. other yarnlazer affiliated bands, such as rob walmart, tunnels, acre and ghosting are all playing sets at this fest as well.
not to be outdone, a weird white rainbow is in the works for september 7th at the paragon on NE killingsworh with a one man band called fauluoah which is reported as being loops of mouth made sounds and crazy drumming.

to wrap up this coming month of fun and excitement, and entertainment and challenge and intrigue, is the NWEAMO (New West Electro/Acoustic Music Organization) annual portland festival. this year it will be held at the doug fir, a wonderful fucking venue that i'm sure most of you have heard me talk about before, perhaps at great length. perhaps with mentions of anonymous pipe-bombing fantasies. perhaps. this festival is on SEPT 24th and costs something around 10 dollars. more info on the fest can be found here NWEAMO is an organization founded by my old college music professor and a great fucking man, JOSEPH WATERS, who, along with help from yume bitsu's good old electronics wiz alex bundy and ring of 17/wolf colonel bassist Ryan Wise, started NWEAMO in his basement way back in the late 90's. no joke. so get IN. this year's festival has the theme of PULSES so expect some heavily panned reich/riley drumming and trip ripping of the most academic degree possible via octo-fuzz phaser wah guitar solos. yeah

so there you have it.

some upcoming GIGS, dudes.

love
your friend

the powerful rock funk with female belting vocals kicked in down in the garden patio right as we tucked ourselves into bed to watch a movie on the laptop. i bought a bunch of ear plugs at sanderson safety company yesterday while killing time before my dentist appointment. the fans outside our windows have been driving me nuts. plus the pulgs make driving much more peaceful and potentally dangerous. but i havent had em in yet tonight.. two hours later, "blazing saddles" and "extra footage" watched and it seems from the drunken hoots and hollers that the band is in the final throws of what was an incredibly energetic and inspired, deeper--string-bass-based-groove set. now its just the massive industrial rooftop air conditioning units outside all grinding ball bearing waves of sharp edged noise and sub frequencies that go in and out of phase with each other.. and the thumping pain that has been growing steadily all night from the root canal i got done yesterday. funny it would wait 24+ hours to start hurting. maybe a crack in the temporary filling? or maybe i was in too much shock last night to even know i was in pain. i dunno. alls i know is im up and im tired and i gots a headache.
sometimes life is just that simple

lo - to live in a house that is silent save for the custom installed speaker system. for quiet and calm. and a killer home theater set up. for an end to industrial hum and urban thump and construction wail and thwack, to semi trucks idling their big diesel dogs in the early morn.
to live in a pre-fab house with deeply insulated walls and an integrated audio-video system just like in the brochures. with the dog smiling from the couch as the kids cuddle up on chic yet comfortable throw pillows.
or at least some nice noise canceling headphones. in-ear.
a noise cancellation grant.

i will never live somewhere this loud again. it just does not suit my vibes. i need some silence in order to make my musics. more than any one thing, the lack of silence has kept me from making music this past year. a quiet room. the sound of a tree rustling outside. the heart soars into fantasia. oh to be the loudest thing on a quiet street. for views of living things, green and stoic and alive and quiet.
maybe one of those old abandoned-ish warehouses you see on the outskirts of town. the ones that used to be mills, used to make something but now sit surrounded by trees and empty water towers. where the warehouse windows look out onto weed covered parking lots and behind that a hill covered in trees leading to the creek. an old pick up truck body turns back into dirt, gets buried in blackberry vines. a wide oily puddle that takes all summer to dry. the one that the anti- hero goes to heal his bruised bones and the computer geek guy makes him the cool lazer gun to fight the zombies. where they keep the extra leather pants and the beefy but friendly dude has been tricking out the get-away car you wreck in the final scene. but without the impending swat team sneaking around with the helicopter just over the ridge. without the c4. just me and honey and the smiling dog on the couch and the kids and the ottoman and the bose integrated surround system and "moon room". yeah.

something

just spent most of the day chillin out and making a new yarnlazer home page and creating a page for the yarnlazer label
let me know what you think, dudes!

oh yeah and i made a yarnlazer myspace page
social network with us!

still gotta update the valet page, the white rainbow page and a whole bunch of other things, but yeah i guess i always feel a little proud when i finish designing a web page. i know its not that exciting in the big vast world of the internet, but it still takes me a long time to make web pages and when i am done i like to sit on the porch with a cold brew in one hand and my blog in my other and just kick back and watch the sun set. shit. its darn putty, too.

peace on earth

the heavy weekend of wedding and art museum party and pdx pop fest is over and i didnt take one dang picture of anything. if anyone out there has any photos of the vibe hut all set up and almost blowing away on saturday night please let me know. (turns out the stake-less para-tent dome design has one major flaw - total lack of stability in even the lightest of breezes)
or if you have pictures of the white rainbow show at the pop fest. with curtis in his dirty sweat pants and me in my dirty everythings. we elect ourselves best dressed band of the fest! we need pictures!! arg! oh well. it was a crazy weekend. if you saw me and i was rude or out-of-it i am sorry. im still recovering from all the stuffs. phew!

anyway, if you are in SF tonight remember to go to see honey (valet) and laurel (privacy) and tom blood (grand junction grand therapy) play at the hemlock. or if you are in humbolt on thursday or olympia on saturday. or portland next wednesday. or white rainbow on the 15th at holocene. possible dark yoga show next weekend at foodhole. chuga chuga chuga. thetrainkeptarollinallnightlong

honey left on thursday and i've been so busy i really havent had a chance to sit here alone in our awesome apartment and think about her and miss her, but now i do. i think i may go see a movie or something. getting some alone time is awesome for sure, but this week hasnt been so much about me getting deep into an own zone as much as its been about partying with old friends from out of town. i just wish honey could have been here for all of that. now that i finally am all alone, i am making huge lists of things that im gonna do with all this free time. finish my record for kranky! watch horror movies that would freak honey out! clean the whole house! take some long walks! listen to records all the way through un-interupted by anything. but in reality its just really hot in here and i will prolly just hang out on the computer, watch some tv and fall asleep.
and then i will dream of owning that new boss RC-50 stereo triple loop pedal and playing it in the studio barn adjacent to my buckminster designed house on the cliff overlooking the ocean in big sur (the one with all the hexagonal green windows) and then the redwoods will shiver with a cool sunset breeze that smells that special combination of seasalt and evergreen and everything will be still and all the animals will sigh and fall asleep too. in the dream. yeah. either that or stay up way late watching conan.
