the yacht nirvana video was fun. i think i have a couple of bruises on my shoulder and legs. from the stage dive crowd surfing. everyone together moshing took me back to a deeply emotionally confused high school place wherein i was a grungy dude moshing in a high school dorm room with my peeps during lunch periods to the newest alternative band cranked loud on a stereo. all piling on top of eachother in sweaty masses of adolescent energy joy and rage together. who knew it was going to pop into the mainstream so far that we would see the very jocks we hated wearing doc martins and flannels and shit a mere 6 months later. back in 91 and 92 and 93. yeah. pretty damn funny to revisit.
the summer solstice festival is coming along. we've got about a dozen acts confirmed. pretty much all either psychedelic or folk or in some way non-traditional. non-rock. i think the only rock band playing is dark yoga. we got tunnels, ghosting, grouper, valet, privacy, grand junction grand therapy, watery graves, a john henry, dark yoga, corvette, nova, benjamin and chris' new band without a name, chrome something or other, jason beuhler of nice nice aeolian harp experiment and white rainbow vibe tent. shit that is a huge amount of dudes. also bbq and soda and wine and beer. at disjecta, right above burnside skatepark. in the warehouse that bumps into the burnside bridge. video projectors, bbq grills, summer solstice. yeah.
what should we name the festival? festival or eternal summer? yarnlazer summer solstice fun fest and bbq? uh?????
so yeah, matt chambers came to town. what a man. a nice man. brought a nice friend annie with him too. its just so inspiring to see the dude from down south doing his awesome projects, traveling. we talked about a white rainbow/yarnlazer gallery show at trudi gallery down in la. seems like its gonna be in december with the possible option of expanding it into a bigger space if we want to go big. so now its time to think up big ideas for art pieces. installation and things that can sell...actual art objects. artifacts that people can take home.
also i lost the first badminton tournament of the season to curtis knapp. i played him in the first round, lost to him and had to beat everyone i met in the losers bracket to play him again in the final game. after two great games with aaron and tom blood, i was a bit winded and curtis' accuracy with the suttlecock had me running all over the court. i never had the upper hand in the game. today i am sore. i have to go to the wine warehouse and put 30 cases of wine on a pallet for this dude to take to seattle in 15 minutes so i better get dressed and get the fuck out of here.
oh yeah, and the yarnlazer cdr label is trucking along. have yet to make a website for it. but we got the cool color top cds in green here with purple and pink on the way, we got some screen ideas, the cases are coming and we're looking to have the first few things, namely valet, ghosting/bonecloud and perhaps rob walmart or one other release out in time for the fest
i went up to oly this weekend to mix down a record and band i took part of back in 2003. calvin johnson and the suns of the soil was kyle field on bass, jason anderson on guitar and drums, me on guitar and drums and everyone's favorite vampire calvin death johnson on the mic. the recordings hold up surprisingly well, great selection of tunes from calvin's vast catalog with awesome full band backing. some touching jams, some ruff and tumbles, and some straight blasts of freedom punk. pretty sweet. it felt good to mix an entire record in a day and a half, as opposed to my own snails pace when it comes to making records. well i guess it did sit on the shelf for 3 years, so it all breaks even in the end...but yeah, suns of the soil! who knew it would be so good! we were a band! an actual rocking band! i think the record will come out by the fall. you'd have to ask calvin about that.
w
we
well
well anyway

peace
half way through you can totally see mr. franz prichard vibing with the touch machine.
anyone know who made this video? its pretty cool. incidentally this place 'machine project' is where white rainbow got down and did our thing (with franz too) for that arthur festival in february. prich got deep that night too, proving he is undoubtedly the most vibed out man in los angeles.
