e*rock posted some cool images from a video he is making for the white rainbow box. i still can't believe that he made something that is 26 minutes long. going above and beyond the call of duty. i am forever grateful
thanks duder
in other news, the JOMF show last night was a deeply damaged confusion of sound imploding unto itself ceaselessly. danny sasaki back from the grave gave us a bass drum tuned to A which set the tone. i let tom borrow my delay pedal but neglected to tell him that it did really cheesy alien pitchshift effects too. well of course he accidentally put it on that setting and it sounded really, really, really wrong. and he never turned it off....which i guess after a while kinda ruled..i dunno. mostly it confused me. themba kicked stand-up bass, a lot of arco shit i really couldnt hear as anything but rumble. not his fault, of course. he was kicking it deeply. honey did some melodica and backwards acid guitar leads and some chanting. theo grabbed a mic and was rapping from the crowd. tom did some turn table samples. there was a pedal steel player playing with us too, but i couldn't really hear a note he played. me, i couldnt decide all night whether to play psyche-miles guitar or psyche-miles-john hassel computer-trumpet or clank bells, or just sit there, or what. my guitar kept on cutting out, too, which furthered my frustration. some songs came out of the muck, but mostly it was a big murky mess of weirdness. im at least proud to say that JOMF is willing to risk and fail. to me that's better than some band that has some tight, boring production of a show, at least theoretically. people seemed at least confused and at most overwhelmed by the amount of sound coming from every direction.
but the JOMF show was just an appetizer
on monday world will play in collaboration with josh and molly (aka THE PLANTS) who have become one of my favorite local bands of 2005 lots of english-y slow folk vibes mixed with keyboard drones, cello, some chimes, and lately drums and extra-fried sitar/guitar. we have not prepared for this. its just gonna bleed out live.
thats at berbati's with SPIRES THAT IN THE SUNSET RISE an all girl four piece experimental folk thing who i've never heard of but who have apparently been together, in some shape or form, for 10 years?
and FURSAXA , who hit her freak-folk peak a couple of years ago, before the current shit-storm of media and fan frenzy surrounding the "new" neo-folk scene. well, i think the people that are getting a lot of attention now owe a huge debt to fursaxa, who, as a genuine spindly faery princess, has been making delicate experimental folk in the underground for years. she, in getting a little bit of press and attention back in 2002/2003, paved the way for the likes of joanna and dev and all the other new dudes. we'll see if any of the indie kids flaunting "freak folk" aesthetics these days even show up, let alone know who she is. its weird how fast culture burns through artists in search of new shit to digest. how quickly things are forgotten. or whatever. yeah.....
anyway!
then tuesday, world will play a collaborative set with EVA INCA ORE , (who the urban honking community should by now be familiar with) one of the strongest voices to come out of the portland/oakland underground in a long time. her recent vibe has been stark acapela and looped voice forest spirit incantation chants. we jammed with her in oakland when we went down there with the dirty projectors last march and she and honey blew the roof off the mother, both chanting and wailing and looping and tripping me solid for a good 20 minutes straight. i was content just laying down the backdrop of blue guitar crunk drone. i can't wait for round two. oh yeah, and she has an awesome cd-r out on jyrk thats probably all gone...uh. yeah. maybe you can find one online. its good. you should. stufffff
next weekend 3 more shows (1 jomf, one world, one white rainbow). i'll write more about what those are gonna be like later.
love

holy moly i/we got a lot of motherfucking shows coming up. i don't really know how this happened. i guess about a month ago a lot of different friends of ours asked us to play shows with them and we just said, yes, not really thinking of when they all were. Upon further reflection we realized that they're all in the next 3 weeks. with a few one-two punches on the weekends. so come out to some of these events. there are some all ages ones, some free ones, some bar ones, some with weird touring bands, some with lots of portland tryypers.
hope to see you at a show!

the deliverance of several pounds of pure psych beauty upon my skull last evening in fact was the very thing i was looking for for so long. completion of task completed, i find myself now in an abyss of total no-now beauty unfolded. however, shit aint always like that, brothers, sisters, friends, onlookers and all. that we can share these rare moments of beauty is a gift from us to us in infinite we/i continuity of pure essence and golden vibrations of love. giving. yes. we like it we want it we need it we eat it. all together one as a nation, a people, a movement a subtle texture in the landscape coming together creating in the darkest hour of our human decay.
BROCADE is a brilliant soundscape of colors, washes of noise collapsing onto the hidden secret shores of german psychedelic influence. repetition is change, drone is the inevidible outcome of years of wisdom sought and found. we have light, we have color, we have existence in the now of creation together created and found and given to all outward in an infinite arch around our very souls.

this is the rough draft of what it will (hopefully) say in the catalog for the 2005 TBA festival about white rainbow. special thanks to mike mcgonigal (buked.blogspot.com) for writing half of it for me over ichat in less than 10 minutes. what a guy!
sorry if my entries have been lame and formal lately. im just exploring using this blog as a way to document some slightly more official things as the happen. sorry if it seems self centered and lame of me. more funny pictures of my butt and silly links to domes coming soon, i promise
WHITE RAINBOW
TITLE OF PIECE: FULL-SPECTRUM VIBRATIONAL HEALING CENTER
White Rainbow AKA Adam Forkner will install a version of his ambient audio/visual sound/light/space/time "vibrational healing center" in the lobby of the Corberry Press. The installation will convert the shabby front office of a warehouse space into a "temporary zome structure" housing a live, multi-speaker sound sculpture with walls of projected video/light.
You are invited to come in, relax on soft cushions, and be surrounded by an ever-changing world of beams, rays, colors and waves of soothing bliss. The piece will be "manned" and occupied by Forkner for the full ten days of the TBA Festival. This remarkable work will be a continuously evolving, minimalist, multimedia ambient environment.
A Portland resident for the better part of a decade, 29-year-old Forkner has consistently been ahead of the musical curve. His work has explored the realms of psychedelic, experimental, minimalist, ambient, "new age" and improvisational music (not to mention sound art, video and installation art) with little regard for musical trends.
Adam was a founding member of the loud, forward-thinking "space-rock" bands Yume Bitsu and Surface of Eceon, and part of the first full touring band for Devendra Banhart. He also recorded and engineered artists at the legendary K Records' Dub Narcotic Studio in Olympia, WA. His first solo project, [[[VVRSSNN]]]], was highly acclaimed. He's currently a member of World and Jackie-O Motherfucker.
White Rainbow is the culmination in his interest in multi-media work. It's about trying to help people attain a dream-like state of blissful, meditational well-being..... The TBA Full Spectrum Vibrational Healing Center installation coincides with the release of a 5cd/1dvd box set of White Rainbow music/video to be released by Portland's own Marriage Records
