April 2004 Archives
my new webstore is going to be called yarnlazer.com
its final.
i just like that name, and its not a band anymore, and the concept and aesthetic of that project fits this project as well
so if any dudes have some art that is crunky and handmade and special and would like weborder representation, get in touch
now i need to:
get the domain
design the site
get a paypal business account
get a digital camera
get a scanner
get a printer
get packing material
get more vendors
set up accounting software
and while we're at it:
get my roommates to stop slamming doors and stomping around in the morning while im still trying desperately to get my 7-8 hours of sleep after being awake helping honey at her bar until 3 or 4 am. everyday. and for that matter i need to steal all of the lawn mowers and weedwackers and drills and powersaws from every house within a block radius of my bed.
and also get someone to do a hospital sanitization of the birdnest, especially around my pillow because my allergies are so bad that i can hardly breathe and when i do breathe i sneeze and my nose itches all day and of course it would be better if i could just get the proper sleep, but no, thats not gonna happen.
and while we're at it, i could use 1000 to 3000 dollars a month just for being me. i mean, getting a "real job" doesnt seem feasible in my current busy "schedule" of helping all my dudes out with their different awesome projects, going to shows, making art and music, starting an e-biz and trying to sleep 7-8 hours a day. and the bills of course keep piling up. like all those parking tickets that keep getting sent to the oergon department of revenue and trippling in price. fuck that. i think i must owe the city of portland/state of oregon around 700 dollars in their eyes, just from parking and living downtown for 4 months. DOESNT THE WORLD KNOW THAT NOT EVERYONE STARTS THEIR DAY WHEN THE SUN RISES? SOME PEOPLE WORK AT NIGHT. like at bars cleaning up all the huge messes left by all the people that "have to get up and work in the morning". so NO i cant get up at 8 am and move my ccar to a parking garage that costs half as much as the ticket from the city. sorry for living dudes.
and then there's the mysterious past due amount for verizon, a phone company i got out of the strangle hold of over a year ago. apperently i still own them even MORE money. the rip-off motherfuckers. and of course since i forgot to pay my car insurance because i was broke in february, my premium more than doubled, so i basically own them 190 bucks a month. plus my credit card bill, my utilites, my rent, phone, gas, food, and oh i dont know, maybe someday i could actually afford to buy a drink or a record somewhere. not today. today i am broke and owe people money at the same time. its a wonderful feeling. i love it. let me tell you
i need to go back to bed, im grumpy.

hes it is:
Dear Adam Forkner,
I am interested in involving Adam Forkner in my next audio project, tentatively titled "May 23rd 2007," and I would like to know if you are interested in involving Adam Forkner.
The project's aims are to further explore the contextualization of sound through computer edits and processing of field recordings.
Essentially, I hope to find several "virtuosos" and record extended improvised "moments" of these virtuosos on their respective instruments--moments without compositional context--then edit and combine those moments, creating seemingly endless combinations of musical structures through the application of context.
Essentially, my role is "composer" is to assign context to non-contextualized moments. It's important that each moment, or sound, lacks any specific relation to any other sound. This is not entirely possible, as there will always be a contextual relationship between performer/listener, performer/environment, performer/instrument--but the point is there will be no performer/performer relationship.
Except the performer with his or her self, namely Adam Forkner/Adam Forkner relationship.
This is what I WANT.
In addition to this being a concept you have explored extensively in your own work (you in fact invented it), Adam Forkner also happens to be a guitar "virtuoso."
Let me know if you are interested in this and I will tell you more.
Basically, I would like to record you soloing on an acoustic guitar (unprocessed is key--sounds as naturally occurring, self-contained entities, much like the Wind or a Coyote's Howl), preferably in the Spanish or "Castillian" style.
You look very Spanish.
Do let me know.
Thank you,
Andrew Peterson

the film artist Jordan Bleson
we watched some of his early movies (61-77) on video that the guy who curates eye and ear control at dunes every 3rd thursday let us borrow.... great pre-video geometric spiritual psychedelic patterns and avant-electronic tape music. so good. like that one part in 2001 but so much better and more trippy. you gotta see this shit. if you can. we might make copies of these vids. we'll let you know
so anyway he has this piece called WORLD and we are totally calling our new project WORLD. for now. we might change it later. we'll see.

from right to left we have dick bladwin of landing on blosser in full HOTT METAL attire, two nyc hotties in full vibe blanket-mode speaking the truth vision of dryystn, alex hubbard as heavy heavy destruction wisdom moth vibe father
i just found this awesome interview with franz ive never seen before
check it out
wisdom ane courage brings pride

these are video stills taken by alex hubbard from, like, the second surface of eceon show ever. it was at the cooler on 14th street in nyc with a bunch of other newer new york bands that i cant remember.. phil played this fucked up drumset that consisted of a huge bass drum that was used as a prop in civil wr re-enactments and a buch of gear borrowed from one of the other bands. i remember that we got a write up in time out new york with a picture and review of yume bitsu, but we brought the surface instead, as a switcher-oo. we were just learning our first batch of jams, which kind of sucked but at the time it was all we had. we were all just becoming friends and learning how to play together. hopefully someday we'll get back together for record #3...

from the archives,
a picture of franz and me in fayetteville, arkansas on tour with modest mouse, we had just played a show in a converted porn store behind a strip club and really bad chinese restaurant with modest mouse and !!! we wore these suits. pat graham took the photos. later i locked the keys in the van and had to wait for the tripple a guy to show up in sweat pants with his wife an hour later at 3 am. then i met up with franz and the other bands at an awesome house party, then hung out outside of a holiday inn 40 miles away sipping whiskey in the van with issac until the breakfast food came in morning
then franz and i drove all the way back to Los Angeles. it was fucked.

and heres a picture from the night before in fort worth, texas where after the show franz and eric stole a cooler full of beer, some guy did donuts in the parkinglot on his speedbike, and issac and i maneuvered a bunch of dudes to steal this big banner that read:"LASER SHOW" it was fun. i had fake blood all over me durring the end of our set. people told me it was like the recent flaming lips live show where the singer smeared blood on his face. but we were thinking more about Dryystonian frog-people and the plight of the DESTRUCTION MOTH before the times of understanding and harmony. truth vision and shit. DRYYSTAN and shit. so yeah, fuggit.
this is my baby lady honey ownes on vibe partol at the cca gallery white rainbow installation. it was so rad to go to sf with her, and even though we didnt make it to her performance in LA at the REDCAT and she was sorta bummed and sick, she helped me with my vibe zone. for that i am eternally grateful. what a woman. i love her. yes.
these are pictures of white rainbow fullspectrum installation at the california college of arts in san francisco feb 2004 get in
pictured here is my partner in crime honey owens, and the hammer and throck dudes, who came and did an impromtu dancehall remix of a yellow swans song for us. thanks dudes! hammer and throck, as well as jose pepon, are brilliant. google that shit. get in.
vibes
so i visited my friends at work last night
fog machines
strobe lights
a bunch of new songs i dont recognize
suburban teenage couples
the green room at the crystal
the drummers parents
the drummers girlfriend
eric's wife
drunk issac
all of it
i was tired
but man:
what a spectacle.
dudes dang dudes deudes dudes.
dang, dudes
so there was that awesome tuesday statesrights dunes blowout. panther was in rare 2003 era form. thanksgiving in awesome 2008 form, jona did some punk songs while hopping, i played under teh roar of the crowd for an awesome 12 minutes. it was grand. steve dj'd up a storm and we even got the "industry guy" to start dancing to R Kelly. what a party
then the next day we woke up and got interviewed and our photos taken. and then i immediately went to holocene and set up my audio video installation for the agf daniel menche show. daniel was absolutely amazing. so good. so composed and focused and overwhelmingly total. i did light ambient evolving soundscapes in the front room. it was ok. but i was exhausted so i left after agf started playing
and went back to dunes to catch the end of sound sunday pleasure. so deep. dudes playing balloons with marbles in them, record players, ping pong rackets, keyboards. it was fun
then on thursday night was zack and pete's _series night at dunes. solo guitar performances. never seen so many dudes in one place with guitars, loopers, delays and effects. i kinda felt like throwing in the towel on my musical career by the end of the night. great performances all around, and good to see that there is such a scene of dudes doing similar things in this town. and i know there are more. only wish there were more girls performing. next month honey and i are doing a duet. its gonna be really good, but im sworn to secrecy....you'll just have to see. zacks got an awesome new blog here too: urbanhonking.com/theend and the series site is dunes.cc/series. im too lazy to make links right now
so tonight i think calvin and i are gonna go see modest mouse at the crystal. or at least take showers down in the dressing room. "everynight was different every night was a challenge." to quote the wolf song top seven singles club (urbanhonking.com/:[ )
i have to listen to and give advice about the sugar bush new record, the new may 23rd 2007 record (check his blog out) also finish mixing this d yellow swans record whenever pete has a free moment. and finish up this badger king opera recording
i also made a cdr of ambient music last week. made a bunch of covers too. im thinking of making more so all my friends can get a copy. maybe even sell it as a limited edition through a label, if any of my friends labels will take me.
and franz emailed me the seeds of a new yume bitsu album. moonrise, dudes MOONRISE.
spring is here and im feeling like coming out of retirement in new form.
