My 2006 in pictures
Archived from January 13, 2007
Dear Friends,
2006 started out with a goal of becoming SAG eligible. I'm here to say that although I did not meet that goal within the confines of 2006, I am in the process of meeting it right now, and god willing I'll have met that goal by the end of January. FINGERS CROSSED.
Sadly, I missed witnessing three out-of-town friends' weddings this year. This was due to a variety of factors, but timing and cash were the main ones. I could ruminate all day and night about all the things I DIDN'T do this year. But instead, I'll tell you about things I DID do this year!
A main theme of 2006 as it accidentally turned out was The Gay Mafia.

I performed with them every Saturday until October (when we taped Outlaugh for LOGO). Margaret Cho got in on the action as well, performing a few times at our shows this year. That's right, people, Margaret Cho, as in The Famous, Margaret Cho. (Famous!)
In February, I performed at The Tomorrow Show with the first ever incarnation of Starr, Scott and Ed.

I also enjoyed a visit from Sally and Arlo!
In March, I performed my solo show in my first ever fringe festival in beautiful Fresno, CA. While there I taught a character/improv class in Clovis, CA and met some awesome people related to The Rogue Festival, where I'll be performing with Starr, Scott and Ed in March of 2007.

Here I am mid-performance. I like this pose because I look like the dishwasher from the movie, "The Cook, The Theif, His Wife and Her Lover." (mass esoteria)
March is the month I purchased my new digital video camera that also shoots stills. I feared the device so I didn't actually start using it until May.

Normally I love my haircuts but I got a lot of bad haircuts this year. Well, 2 bad haircuts. That's what I get for telling stylists "you decide" when it comes to 'my look'.

Above is an example of the first bad haircut of the year in a most unflattering angle. This photo features my friend Pedro before he moved to Illinois, and Trevor, who was my platonic friend at that time.
In April I performed with a few dudes from The Gay Mafia at King Drew High School. For the kids in the Gay/Straight alliance club.

I'm the giant white girl.
At the end of April I got sideswiped by a semi. It was horrible. I wasn't injured, but I was petrified, particularly since it happened so close to the year mark of the awful car accident I was in last year. Unfortunatley (?) I don't have any photos of the event. But if I had, you could see a huge wheel mark scraped into the paint of the side of my little Toyota. If you'd like to read a short blog entry about it, you can go to my myspace.com/captainsanchez page.
In May I performed with Starr, Scott and Ed. Here is our Sears photo shoot to find the perfect look for our promotional card.

Here's the card. Next is us pre-show at The C.O.G. Theatre, hanging out like a pack of nerds.
Below is us mid-show at Second City Theatre

This is also the time when I got together with my friend Trevor and we became BOYFRIEND AND GIRLFRIEND.

At the end of June I went to Wisconsin to work on taking out and sorting some of the stuff in my Dad's house/the house I grew up in. This was a remarkable undertaking and I barely managed to make any dent at all. I tried to clear out the attic
And didn't get very far until Harry and Tony stepped in (at 3am on the 4th of July, scaring the crap out of me as the neighbors said "Starr, I think there's someone in your house.")

Wisconsin was awesome. I saw my dad in his new home as much as I could.
I spent a ridiculous amount of time at Frostie Freeze.
I got to see a ton of old friends. Some who I hadn't seen in years.

I was blessed with the generosity of the Loomer-Youngs. They took me in and are constantly helping out our family. I wish I had a photo of them that didn't suck. Alas, Photography is not my strong suit.

While in WI my boss called to tell me that I was going to be laid off when I got back from vacation. Then she asked if she could call me back later.
She called back and told me she found me a new job.
So, now I work on The California Teacher's Study. http://www.calteachersstudy.org/
For the rest of July I house-sat 2 really energetic and challenging dogs who broke my computer. I also got my hair done in a way I liked.
In August not only did I switch jobs, I also drove to beautiful Portland, OR with Trevor. It was great and hectic because I decided I wouldn't tell anyone I was coming and surprise them with our visit. This proved to be fun/funny and mildly stressful. It also required planning and the help of the Thiel-Delamarter Family who were my Portland surprise liasons.
Portland was exciting for me and Trevor as a couple because we had to meet each other's friends and get along with them and always have something to talk about and do the whole time we were there. Plus we had to have fun. Fortunately, we managed to do all those things and be cutely in love, .
all while sleeping on people's floors and fold out couches
It was mega-fun-see-friends-time

as well as new baby in town time. My birthday buddy, the artist Becca Bernstein, had a baby named Hazel in July.
Trevor and I saw some great sights on the way home, specifically a mountain.

and the California state capitol in beautiful Sacramento, CA.

Once back in LA it was time to turn on The Gay Mafia heat.
We had a show to prepare for a big show... the Outlaugh festival.
In September, The "Gay Mafia heat" had a damper put on it when the place we performed in every Saturday closed.
In between stress and fest Trevor and I took a short trip back to Wisconsin. Trevor met my dad, we cleared out the rest of the attic and went to Sally and Arlo's wedding!

We met up with Trevor's friend Kirk and toured the Wisconsin State Capitol (yes, I love State Capitols).

The first weekend in October was The Outlaugh Festival. Outlaugh was taped for the LOGO network and will air on Mondays in January and February at 10pm. I will apparently be in the 8th and final episode, so look for me.
Taping the show was AWESOME because I love wearing wigs and costumes.

I also love wearing make-up and making faces.

And I love totally awesome things like soundbooths and cameras.

After the Outlaugh/LOGO show, my friend Heather came for a visit with her brand new husband, Matt! They became fast friends with Trevor. FRIENDSHIP IS SO MAGICAL!!!

The end of October was significant, in part because Trevor started nursing school in Orange County,
so now I only get to see him once a week. But before then we took a few trips up through the Antelope Valley
to beautiful Tehachapi, CA where we would enjoy small town quiet at his late grandfather's house in the "land of four seasons" (they allegedly have a Southern California version of winter there). I must admit, it was really special to go somewhere so close that had lilacs in the spring and apples in the fall.
For Halloween I was a part of a performance art project called Art of Bleeding. It was a staged car crash and we all got bloodied up.
November, my birthday month, was sort of a bust at the beginning. I was super sick, I didn't celebrate my birthday, and then I got this terrible haircut.

I was really sick as you can see by the facial tissue, and I was so disapointed with my hair that I had to wear headscarves.
Later in the month things turned awesome because I performed as Fury Wymynsdotter for the first time at Ed's stand-up room "Punk House"
The end of November was great because I went to Portland again. This time to perform Starr, Scott and Bill - which was the Starr, Scott and Ed show, except with Bill in it.

A major shoutout to Herb Spice and Comedy Sportz Portland for hosting us so marvelously.
My Thanksgiving Portland trip was again mega-fun-see-friends time.

Of course I was completely enchanted with my favorite walking baby, Thisbe.

December was a nice month. I got a visit from Dr. Fiona Garlich...sex therapist.
That's actually a lie, she's not really a sex therapist, but she is a doctor.
Christmas Eve was spent with friends in a mimosa garden party

I'm cool.
Christmas day was spent with Trevor's family, of which I have no pictoral evidence. So you'll just have to believe. Like Santa.
The rest of December was spent kicking it and sicking it with 3 super awesome dogs in a house-sitting situation, which I also have no pictoral evidence of. But you can imagine me sick (from previous photos) and you know what dogs look like.
Thank you 2006, it's been a full year.
And that, as they say...is that.
If you feel you've been a part of my 2006 and are underrepresented here it's only because of my limited access to digital photographs. If you have a digital or scanned photo of an experience we had together this year, please include it in a comment or email it to me and I will alter this entry to incorporate your contribution.
