Eating ice cream and bbq ribs before going raw
Archived from September 09, 2006
Thanks to NPR I now have 4 new, independent, gourmet ice cream places to try in LA. I love gourmet ice cream. I love exotic flavors, and I'm going to try them all ASAP because I want to incorporate more raw meals into my life. But before I convert, I'm going to have ice cream and BBQ ribs one last time. I remember loving BBQ ribs, but it's been such a long time since then that maybe I've been tricking myself. So I have to try them one more time, just to make sure. I want to try them at the best ribs place around, and I have no idea where that would be.
I've been reading a lot about raw-foodism. I like it. I like the premise of filling your body with nature's bounty w/o the middle man of cooking. This is in part because I'm terrible at cooking and in part "W.W.C.D." or "What Would Caveman Do?" which has been my mantra for a long time. For some reason I think of early man as being the most pure human and the actions of early man indicate the actions we should have or adopt for our health and the health of the planet. Of course that thinking is useless if I'm the only one who goes along with it. Regardless, I can't seem to escape it, so to me it makes sense that human animals would eat food as it is presented to them by the earth.
-I don't have any bleeding heart feelings about meat eating. I imagine that's in large part due to growing up in a rural farming/hunting community. But I definitely have bleeding heart feelings about the over-the-top slaughter of hormone and anti-biotic infused animals. So, I prefer not to participate in that meat industry machine.
-I don't have any bleeding heart feelings about dairy consumption either, probably because I'm from 'the dairy land'. I can appreciate the absurdity of getting in on another animal's lactation though. I can also appreciate avoiding dairy that's had its nutrients and healthy biotics cooked out before being shipped across the nation.
-I don't think processed soy products are the savior of humanity as many meat substitute style vegetarians seem to. My experience with processed soy has been medically concerning and I have no nostalgia for my "soy years".
-I think medication is overused to a detrimental extent. There must be another way. Our bodies, like animals' bodies are not naturally designed to be weak. It is quite likely that we systematically weaken our bodies for the financial gain of paternal figures we want so desperately to trust, but who ultimately have a bottom line that has nothing to do w/ our health nor wellbeing.
Some day I may eat raw meat.
But for now, I am still reading up on raw food philosophies, and before I go all out, I want to eat cooked meat, specifically BBQ ribs. (And lots of new flavors of ice cream.)
