My roommate of 8 1/2 years sure likes it when its sunny outside and he can send a whole day mellowing. Music is Daybreak by Greg Davis and Sebastien Roux.

I totally just realized 5 days later that this video is totally a continuation of the Soothing Websites series of videos I did a couple years back so now I'm rebranding and relaunching this video (and series!). Be on the lookout for Soothing Websites 13 - Ambient Camping. Boo ya!

A wild animal in his natural habitat. Unfortunately the best part of Mike talking I recorded had to be cut due to quietness.

Experiment of Mirrors

Lauren shared with me some videos that her friends Jillian and Audrey had made. They had shot clips together with some props and edited them separately into 2 different movies. Lauren and I decided to try a project like this. So on a beautiful July afternoon we spent a somewhat distracted but breezy time in Laurelhurst park with some props from the party store. We had planned on taking another day to shoot some more because the distracted air of the afternoon left things feeling slightly incomplete. We didn't get to shoot again, but when we separately looked at the clips we decided that we had enough cool stuff. Yesterday we both finished our little movies and its really fun to see how different they are.

Here's mine:

it's a ritual that somehow ushers in the end of times. It's 2012 and gravity has gone upside down. Homemade hyperspace. Or Something.

Here's Lauren's:

It's has the feel on a 1920's safari film filmed in the Los Angeles zoo. Or something.

Really fun project. Thanks to Lauren for bringing it to me and Jillian and Audrey for the original version.

The arrival of the Next Level of websites, such as Virb, Flickr, Vimeo, Facebook, and Twitter, is joyously very significant to us at "Stephen's Gate" Our Older Member in the Evolutionary Level Above Human (the "Kingdom of Heaven") has made it clear to us that these websites' approach is the "marker" we've been waiting for -- the time for the arrival of the spacecraft from the Level Above Human to take us home to "Their World" -- in the literal Heavens. Our years of classroom here on Myspace are finally coming to their conclusion -- "graduation" from the Human Evolutionary Level. We are happily prepared to leave Myspace.

If you understand the metaphysical level of social networking, you will hopefully understand our joy and what our purpose on Myspace has been. Consider taking your "boarding pass" to leave with us during this brief "window!"

We fully desire, expect, and look forward to boarding a spacecraft from the Next Level very soon (in our physical bodies).

(Warning: Long driving sequences (some rough bouncy roads) contained within. Possibly boring, nauseating, beautiful, patriotic, rousing, and radical. Also some humans contained, not ONLY just driving.)

Filled with some sense of purpose that to honor this country or to honor what was my inner american's desire for a true 4th I decided I needed a Hunter S. Thompson inspired spirit quest (to go to the desert away from literally everything with some fireworks and a cooler full of beer).

Mike joined me for the trip and we started by taking 26 west over Mt. Hood (with a detour for some mountain mini golf) we then traveled through the Warm Springs Indian Reservation and south through Madras. The streets were lined with American Flags and we listened to TERRIBLE political parody songs on NPR. We went south through Bend (where Mike switched from long pants to shorts in the high 90s temps and bought a funky hat). We continued south to virgin territory for the both of us. We tried to visit the Lava River Caves but were thwarted by conservative operational hours by the state park service. Just north of La Pine we took a left and went on a small road deep into the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. We curved and climbed passed Paulina Lake and East Lake. Then it was onto a very rough and ready bouncy and crusty dirt mountain pass road. It was thrilling. The road smoothed out but was still dirt for many many more miles. Eventually we found ourselves at the South Ice Cave which was strange and thrilling and alien and slightly frightening. We shot roman candles into the ice cave, ate ice cream sandwiches, and tapped into the cooler resources for the first time of the day.

Back onto the dirt road we drove and drove and kicked up dust until we reached the Central Southern Oregon beacon which is called Fort Rock. We turned left at Fort Rock and continued onto a place called Christmas Valley. We were searching for some famous dunes east of Christmas Valley. We drove and drove and somehow missed our turn. We were losing light. Eventually we turned around and came back and turned off to a "shortcut". We went deep into the high desert brush outback through some mild dunes, but eventually a fence blocked our shortcut and it was getting dark. We found our mini dunes and hunkered down for some fireworks and carousing. We were many miles from any humans. We saluted the sky and the silence. We hooped, hollar'd, and got quiet.

Then we turned around and went home. We drove through the dark and saw hundreds of jack rabbits and almost drove off the dirt roads. We drove 5+ hours back in the dark and got home after 430 in the morning. Thank you America.
