An introduction by Lois

I hate opening lines that's why I always try to bartend at open houses. You always have an opening line when you bartend..."What would you like?"

Guess I'll dive in anyway, I'm excited to have made the cut for the final 12 and am hard at work on the first challenge. As for the contest well just think of me as the Rupert of the group, though without the facial hair. I told Mikey that "I can best be thought of as your atypical middle-aged mid-western academic broad who blogs."

*taking my best bartender stance* What can I make for you? And which shaker should I use? Personally I'm tied between the cobalt blue and the hot pink.  I think I would have to settle for a Blue Lagoon in the cobalt shaker...though the drink would need to be more swished then shaken.

Comments:

Assuming that part of the "game" is to pick a drink that would actually use one of the shakers (otherwise I'd ask to see the wine and bourbon lists), I'll take a dry Vox martini up with olives and no twist in the blue shaker.

Hmmm... I used to bartend as well, but I'm really just a beer girl, in my heart. I like the lime green shaker though...

I'll take a Carmel Apple Martini in the Green shaker please.

i'll take absolutely anything in the hot pink shaker, a pink flamingo maybe? pink titties? no... no... i cheated and searched for pink drinks, i really don't know a thing about mixed drinks. i've honestly never ordered anything but straight whiskey, sake, or gin & tonics. but if i knew it was to come in a hot pink shaker, im willing to step out side my box. oh wait! martinis, martini shakers... of course... it has to be a martini. um... i've only had a few martinis before... but i think my favorite had to be a vanilla bean martini in providence town Massachusetts. that would have to come out of the orange shaker though...

nice to meet you lois, im james

wait... am i the only one who doesn't see a green shaker?

Green = second from the right. Up to date folks might call it "citrus."

James, I recently learned about a whole group of drinks that are, indeed, pink. Better yet, they're all called "squirrels"!! They are based around this almond-flavored liqueur called "creme de noyaux" that is pink.

Here is one example: http://www.droogle.ca/drinks/1491/

I haven't made any yet, but I did collect several recipes and the ingredients as a present for Mike, one of your own hosts, who loves both fancy drinks and the color pink.

Mike, you made any of those yet??

In France we have pink wines, excellent for hot sunny afternoons, drinked cool. Might inspire James for the food challenge.

mmmmm... i do like pink. if living in taiwan has taught me one thing, its that there is nothing cooler than a boy in pink. however, i also learned that pink tanktops and hairy chests are a poor match. i wonder what pink cocktails and squirrels have in common though?

pink wines? i wonder where the color comes from? either way, sounds very enticing. i had a drink in austria (which i was told came from france) that includes mixing a certain champagne with a certain juice (orange maybe), which turned the whole drink a bright green color. i think they called it a 'frogger'. anyhow... i drank a few bottles of it in the park with some naughty high-school kids, and don't remember much more.

Pink wine = rosé wine

The austrian drink is probably wine mixed with chartreuse liqueur. Nasty herby stuff with a fluorescent green color.

Lois,
I sure enjoyed your opening line about opening lines. So cool.
