question re: credit reports?

edited March 2013
How do you get your credit report?
We want to look at a house tomorrow and they want you to show up with your credit report. How do you do that?
I have literally no idea. Is it something you can print off the internet?

  • This looks like a spam site, but it's actually not:
    https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

You're allowed one free credit report every 12 months. Do the form and you'll end up with a PDF eventually after an annoying process.
  • thanks Alex!!
  • Can you get this from your bank? Is it just for renting? Geez. Landlords these days...
  • Lolo, you owe me $3100.
  • Remember that Oregon law says that the first qualified people to apply for a rental are legally obligated to get the rental! So if you see a place and like it, get that app in as soon as possible. If you get your application in first and you meet the terms of tenancy, the landlord is legally obligated to offer you the apartment.

    Also,
"Applications have only one legitimate purpose: To give the landlord information about whether the tenant is responsible and able to pay the rent. If any information requested does not serve this purpose, ask why the information is needed. Don’t provide the information until you have received a satisfactory explanation. You are not required to provide information about your age, sex, race, student status, marital status or other potential discriminatory information. Landlords cannot use such information to decide whether to rent to you. "
  • good calls Alex

yeah, landlords these days!!! The deposit on this place is $2,400. That is more than I put down for my apartment in LOS ANGELES. America where did we lose our way
  • Renting in NY has been a prolonged anxiety attack/nightmare which involves giving copious amounts of money away
  • question: this place wants us to bring our credit report. Our credit report has our SSN and DOB and all our past addresses and stuff. Is that bad to give to the landlord? It's been a long time since I filled out an application and can't remember if that is normal info to give

    ugh
  • Block that stuff out they don't need it
  • $310000000
  • I am straight up afraid to look at my credit report on account of the problem i had once where i fell down the DoS stairs before the Ninja High School show and the hospital billed the wrong insurance because i had the wrong card in my wallet (to be fair, i was a little disoriented because i'd just fallen down the stairs and it went to collections before I realized it).
  • are you required to let your fiance see your credit report before you get married?
  • (okay also afraid to look at it on account of the time i had a negative $5 balance in my account for several months because the bank had missed my change in address form. Will I never be able to buy a car now? Maybe that's a good thing?)
  • honestly... I think that I won't be able to get "real" married because of my credit rating. : - ( I will get ceremony married but not US law married.
  • Don't worry, you guys! 7 years after your credit misdeed it will be dropped from your record.
  • Mine is surprisingly great, considering that in my youth I was profligate and stupid. I think this must be the 7 years rule?

Now I am still those things but I luckily married someone who is strong where I am weak and he maintains a really strict budget and it is awesome. I highly recommend marrying someone who is good at the stuff you're bad at and vice versa.
  • I've always had a really good credit score. DO YOU HATE ME LIKE ALL THE KIDS IN SCHOOL HATED ME FOR MAKING As?
