PLANS FOR FRIDAY, October 28

edited October 2011
Anyone want to see that Justin Timberlake Sci-Fi movie on Friday?

I think Josh wants to go. Let's make a plan!

Comments

  • I would go probs
  • Plus Cillian Murphy and the bad kid from Mad Men

    I'm in....... "In Time"

I like how delicately JT says "I wanna take them for everything they've got."
  • Josh, Me, YoursTruly, Loose_Thread.

Would Gary be coming too? That would be one car-load, with everyone except me in north Portland. I could get a Zipcar and come pick people up. Hit the theater in the 'Couv and stop to get a Fiji water after the film.
  • Gary will come if I say he will come
    GOD DAMNIT

  • Wait, so does that mean Gary isn't coming?
  • I don't know, I haven't asked him
    text him!
  • I wish you could get booze in this theater
  • edited December 2011
    flask
  • Mini bottles of booze. I put them in my socks when I go to Blazer games.
  • Is Gary online? Has he logged on here today?
  • MOVIE TIMES FOR IN TIME IN THE 'COUV: ‎12:00‎ ‎2:35‎ ‎6:50‎ ‎9:25pm‎

I vote for 9:25pm. I can come pick up the Urban Honking North Portland Film Appreciation Society. (Oh, I wonder if @UncleBoatShoes2011 will join us!?)
  • NINE TWENTYFIVE
  • is this happening? Gary is not in but I probably am.
I leave myself only the escape clause of class being shitty and me needing to not see humans later. Hopefully that won't happen!!!!!!!!

Are you really picking everyone up? It's so luxurious!
  • Okay, I'm going to start picking people up about 8:30-ish. I'll go get @Loose_Thread, then @zin, then @YoursTruly. That's only four people and I'd like to bring three more. Maybe @UncleBoatShoes2011? Maybe @RyRy? @Wanda?
  • Wanda has plans, I'm afraid! Her plans are lying on her back and occasionally sitting up to sip a hot beverage. And maybe watching some television with a friend. She is too sick for the movies!

But thank you for the invite and HAVE FUN!
  • Yay I am so stoked to see this movie. What's it about again? All I remember is that Killian McMurdo is in it.
  • it's about a world....in which time....is LITERALLY money
  • "NO ONE SHOULD BE IMMORTAL IF EVEN ONE PERSON HAS TO DIE"

  • Steve is out, he has plans to see COMEDY. But some other North Portland people might be in. We shall see.
  • Can we get food/drink beforehand, like at 7 or something?/??

    anybody?

    Bye and Bye?
  • That's what popcorn is for!!
  • FUCK OFF
    seriously, no takers??
Beers and brussels? WHY WOULDN'T YOU
  • well I'm going with or without you asswipes
  • edited December 2011
    @yourstruly i like your style
  • I'm having wine and roasting some brussels. I'm with you in spirit.
  • I would *jump on this*if I hadn't made huge plans to put Zac P in 6 different wigs and cut them off of his head in a slow methodical fashion, all inside a rose-colored spotlight, in my house! P-Gurls vid shoot 2nite! We should be done by midnight! JT SCI FI afterparty at my house? Bring some hip flasks/mini bottles in your underwear/whatnot!
  • Wow, we really got our asses handed to us on this one, didn't we guys?
  • It wasn't good?

I was interested in the opportunity of this film when I saw the creation of this thread. I hadn't heard of the film, so I watched the trailer. I was left cold. I thought, "I like all those people so much but this movie doesn't look good. I would watch this at a cheap theater." Then I asked my sci-fi expert Ms. Universe her thoughts on the prospect of this film. She was not excited. Then I was presented with a free comedy opportunity.

I would love to hear the group's thoughts on this film.

  • I loved Gattaca. And this was by that guy. So I was very excited. Also, sci-Fi is the best. But this was not the best.

When you are making a film, do you think there is a point at which you know it's going to be bad, but you are in too deep, and just have to keep going?

The concept was awesome, but the execution couldn't have been much poorer on every level.

I have reviewed it on I Saw That if anyone is interested in deeper slams.

After doing some very cursory research, I do think that we can't blame the director, who is clearly a smart thoughtful dude who knows how to make a movie. I think this is one of those times where a bevy of dipshit producers ruined the film by trying to make it less and less ambiguous and have more and more boobs and car chases until all that was left of the original idea was just this sketchy unrealized skeleton on which crazy fist-fights and awful expository dialogue was layered.

So, yeah, I think there was probably a point where THAT DUDE realized the movie was going to suck, but when it comes to shit like this, a relatively-no-name director doesn't stand a chance against the Money Men. If they want to hire 20 random guys to come rewrite your script, they're gonna do it.

  • also Justin Timberlake is a terrible serious actor

also could you believe HOW MANY TIMES we were shown the clock on someone's arm?
    "Give me one hour"
"Ok here you go" [whoosh whoosh whoosh]
(looks at arm; we see the one hour on there)
    "Ok I'll see you later"
    "Ok"
(looks at arm again, we see the one hour on there)
[whoosh...whoosh.....] omg the hour turned into 59 minutes!!!!!!!

This feature also made the already-confusing film-world even weirder, where like, the mom has 2 hours on her arm and then takes off running and then in the next scene she's still running and looks at her arm and only 8 seconds are left. WAIT, REALLY?

I just went so I could stare at Cillian Murphy on the big screen. At least he was in it. JT always just looks to me like a sand-colored person of average, though symmetrical, appearance. I liked looking at Amanda Seyfried, she is a real life anime fantasy. I like it when Murphy does an American accent. It is mostly normal but then he will handle an r or a hard consonant at the end of a word in a humorously unreal way.

I am kind of sick of seeing this dear man as the villain in Hollywood block busters, even though I also love it.
  • I know, why can't we see him IN LOVE SCENES, that's all I want in this life!
He is definitely not sand-colored. He is a veritable shining rainbow of colors and emotions. I love him.

He's not the bad guy in 28 Days Later...are there any others where he's not the bad guy?

Good call about his accent, I always even forget that he's British.

Also good call re: Seyfried being real-life anime. It was awesome how she found time to spend an hour on her eye makeup each day even though they were being chased by gangsters, police, and raging millionaire fathers. Also STRIP POKER, that scene had some of the best dialogue! "Why do I play strip poker with you." "I don't know."
