The Rules: Each player is dealt one card from the deck face up. The highest card assigns the lowest card a one-page essay on a film. In the case of a tie for lowest card, both players are required to write an essay. In the case of a tie of the highest cards, two essays will be assigned.

Currently outstanding:

dalas verdugo - L.A. Story (1991)
Adrian Chen - Weekend (1967)
Anja Verdugo - Outland (1981)

Looking Ahead, Making Plans

The UrbanHonking Athletic Club is as much a social venue as it is sport based. UHAC was modeled on the idea of a virtual MAC (or for those in LA, LAAC), where there are a variety of sport and gaming opportunities as well as opportunities for social encounters, all provided without the overhead of a physical location, staff, or budget.

We've created the outline for a plan for the 2009 Summer Season which combines various sports and activities which we are hoping will, to use the words of the MAC, "enrich lives, foster friendships" and all that.

In April, as we cross our fingers and hope for fine weather, we'll looking to accept a challenge for a game of full-court basketball against the Half & Half. The details are still pending, but we hope people will come out and cheer for UHAC and boo our nefarious opponents, even if they do make the best sandwiches.

In May we hope to host the first UrbanHonking Bar Olympiad Septathlon and possibly play our first game of softball. June holds the great national holiday of Flag Day, and we'd like to celebrate with the time-honored tradition of Flag Football. We'll also be scheduling another softball game in June. July 4th will mark the fourth year of our annual UrHo Classic Mini-Golf Tournament. Later in the month we're working on a pretty epic event that we are not yet ready to announce. August holds the promise of more softball and the likely arrival of a formal Horseshoe Tournament. And finally September, which is as far as we planned, we hope to finally hold our softball game against the Fresh Pot, and introduce people to the fine game of Cornhole.

In addition to these planned events I'm sure more opportunities will arise. We hope to also host a number of indoor games and events. If you're interested in any of these events just sign up on the UHAC mailing list or keep an eye on the UHAC blog where we'll announce these events as they are finalized.

Poker games are not generally announced via the list, but if you are interested in attending you can leave a comment here or email me directly (kmikeym@kmikeym.com). We generally play a Texas Hold'em Tourney with a $20 buy-in.

And of course if you have any questions or want to plan a game or sport of your own, just get in touch! If you'd like to challenge UrbanHonking to a game (anything!) we'll gladly put together a team, a cheering section, and then humiliate you in front of your peers with our outstanding athletic skills and strategic masterly of all sports and games.

Oh, one last thing. If you are more the appreciator of sport and not as much a participant, UrbanHonking is helping with the slow launch of Portland Sportsman, and we're looking for people who might want to write about the amazing sports that happen here!

Sincerely,
The UHAC Board of Athletic Directors

Last year we had tournaments and oversized checks. This year we're planning an even bigger schedule of more events. Everything from poker games to a eight-day foot race across the deserts of eastern Oregon. Set a date with your personal trainer, tell them you need to be ready for anything.
