Epic Tie Game

| | Comments (4)

UHAC played the early slot last night against the Lonely Shepherds. The boys in green seemed to enjoy themselves as they tested out some fancy moves and new positions. Keeper Gene Merrill stepped out onto the field and had some great attempts but was unable to find the back of the net. Josh Berezin stepped into the net during the second half to see what the game looks like from the back of the field, and did a great job on fast restarts earning him the nickname "Monkey Boy." We also saw a surprise appearance from #33 Tosh Tambe. While his skills weren't needed for this match, we can only suspect that UHAC team owner is thinking about next week when they play the undefeated Unicorns.

Pre-Game Talk

The second game of the evening pitted the Lightnings against the Dudes FC. If you remember it was the Dudes FC with no one on the bench that initiated the Lightnings into the world of futsal back on March 22nd with a 9 to 4 victory. Almost one month later they meet again, and in an epic battle the Lightning play some great defense and end up tying the match 3 to 3! This is the first tie game we've seen in our league and it sets the Lightnings up to finish their first season in 4th place, almost tied with the dudes except for goal differential. Of course they still need to beat Ziba Bonito II twice in the next two weeks!

The final game pitted the undefeated AGFC against Ziba Bonito II. We have no word on the score yet, but we are fully expecting a Unicorn (AGFC) win.

Mercy Rule

It was a night of triumph for both the UrbanHonking AC and the C.E.I.D. Lightnings as they pummeled their opponents so bad the mercy rule came into effect.

Steve Schroeder attended the Lightning game and filed this report: The CEID/Marriage Records Lightnings took home their second victory of the season beating the Lonely Shepherd FC 10-3 (Lightning actually netting 12 goals). The Lightnings came out with a steely focus and and easily had their best offensive performance of the season. They attacked and passed really well early and jumped out to a quick lead. Two strong goals in the last minute, including a perfectly timed header into the net from Aaron "Flint" Jamison gave the Lightnings an 8-2 lead and they never looked back. Second half play slowed down a bit and got a bit chippy as not one but two players left the field limping. It was a breakthrough performance for the young and energetic first season squad. This should be their launching pad to increasingly competitive matches against the top half of the league.

Thanks Steve! While it went down unseen, the rivals cup is looking like a lock for the mighty Unicorns of Albina Going FC. They managed to remain undefeated with a 5 to 4 win over the Dudes FC.

The UrbanHonking AC faced Ziba Bonito II and while the score was 5 to 4 at the half, the rest of the game saw the Green Machine kick into high gear. With no Looper, Berezin, Wise, or Germer, the UHAC had a shorter bench. Maybe it was the added pressure of no replacement that started Gene Merrill off to a rocky start, or perhaps it was having sustained an off-the-field injury earlier in the week. Regardless of the cause he found his footing and did an excellent job in the second half. As the lead increased the UHAC team started testing out some fancy footwork on the Ziba Bonito's, with some very nice assists from Gilduin Barre and a great header from Scott Sherman. UHAC scored a total of 16 goals last night!

Come Play Soccer Today!

| | Comments (3)

A little last minute, but while watching the MLS season opener yesterday we decided to rally in the park to play some soccer. So today, (Easter Sunday, April 8th) at 3pm we're meeting at Sewallcrest Park in SE Portland.

The forcast says rain this evening, but I think we'll be okay at 3pm.

Sorry for the late notice!

Results of Week Three

As expected it was an incredible day of Futsal last night. The UrbanHonking AC came out and played one their best games of all time against the Lonely Shepherd FC. The Shepherd's are a new team and still figuring out the game, allowing UHAC to rack up an impressive 9-2 victory and score an astounding sixteen points!

That puts UHAC's Gil Barre in the lead with an impressive dozen goals in just three games.

Most of UHAC stayed to cheer on the Lightnings in their match against the undefeated and top-ranked Unicorns of AGFC. The Lightnings have been out recruiting, and had three new members on the pitch. Team Manager Adam "The Power" Forkner was sidelined with a knee-injury. While the end result was a powerful 9-2 win by the Unicorns, this was perhaps the most spirited game we have yet seen in Futsal, with a crowd of supporters and some amazing cheers supporting the Lightnings who played very well. Both James "The Bolt" and Flint "Stripes" Jamison managed to score against the Unicorns now legendary keeper. Li'l Jimmy seemed to be a crowd favorite, and we're looking forward to seeing this young player develop.

No word yet on the late game which pitched Ziba Bonita II against the Dudes FC, but we do have a few words from the team owners, managers, and players from last night.

Futsal Preview

Thursday, Thursday, Thursday! Tonight is another great night of Futsal. Before I jump into my predictions, wishes, hopes, and dreams for the night, let's take a look at the official standings from PortlandFutsal.com.

Standings:

Team Games Win Loss Tie Forfeit Scored Allowed Points GD pts.
Albina Going FC 2 2 0 0 0 14 6 6 8
Urban Honking AC 2 1 1 0 0 12 11 3 1
Ziba Bonito II 2 1 1 0 0 13 12 3 1
Dudes FC 2 1 1 0 0 13 14 3 -1
The Lightnings 2 1 1 0 0 7 11 3 -4
Lonely Shepherd FC 2 0 2 0 0 4 9 0 -5

Two weeks in and the D3 Argentina league is beginning to shape up. The Unicorns are looking like the team to beat, heading into week 3 with two wins and no losses. Tonight they play the Lightning, and it's going to take all the electricity they can muster to survive this one, we wish them luck! UrbanHonking should be able to lock in a solid second place in the standings as they face the Lonely Shepherd FC, a team that hasn't quite found its footing yet. The Dudes should be back to full strength tonight and we expect they will beat Ziba Bonita II to take the third place spot.

The Lightnings First Win!
