New Basketball League

By kmikeym from August 18, 2004

10050721.jpgAnyone heard of International Basketball League? I read a short article about it on Portland Bizjournals. I beleive that Mikal Duilio is also the founder of Peaceful & Recreational Athletics, Inc, which runs Portland Basketball and Portland Football (a flag football league).

(from journalstar.com) Mark Duilio, 35, is a native of Indianola, Iowa, and a graduate of Iowa State. He founded PortlandBasketball.Com in 1992 and has scheduled and coordinated more than 55,000 basketball games and trained more than 100 basketball officials. He also owns and operates PugetSoundBasketball.Com, a league in its first year of operation in Seattle.

Peaceful & Recreational = PortlandBasketball.com

They're one and the same.

Nit Pick: Not really one and the same... PortlandBasketball.com is the product that Peaceful & Recreational Inc. makes. (or the service they provide)

Alternate leagues don't seem like good ventures to me. Hard-core fans aren't going to be interested, because it's not the "pure" game they're into. I don't expect them to draw non-fans either. If someone isn't interested in Basketball, they're not going to be interested in basketball with a few changes (unless those changes include trampolines, a la slamball, and I still wouldn't call that successful). It sounds a little too much like the XFL of basketball. But maybe it will turn into basketball's moderately successful arena football league.

But what about minor leagues? It's not meant to compete with the NBA. It's like farm teams...
