Rose City Rollers teams Guns and Rollers, the Heartless Heathers, Break Neck Betties and the High Rollers, all appropriately costumed, or inappropriately, face off. This wacky and highly entertaining sport does have rules in which one each of the team members, designated by a different helmet color try to pass the other team members from behind. But those mean girls try to elbow them aside, hog the court and otherwise keep from being passed. Sort of like junior high. Meanwhile an all ages and varied crowd, some costumed to support their favorites, hoot, yowl and otherwise carry on. The cheering and jeering somehow seem more real than at a pro sports event. Expensive PBR supports county programs - that would be social services and jails. A most entertaining half time show, sometimes with the Sprockettes and the Zoobombers, means that with the pairings of four teams, the event runs from 6 to 9:30 or 10. Doors 5. Portland Expo Center - go by train on the light rail as parking is expensive. www.rosecityrollers.com $12 advance, $15 day of show and $20 for VIP's, though how that applies to Rollerderby I'm mystified.

The absurdity of "professional wrestling" is tiresome. The absurdity of Japan's 2000 year old national sport, Sumo is sublime. In Japan, the wrestlers are revered and they really do walk around in public in yakutas - the Japanese bathrobe - with their entourage. Now the sport has spread beyond its home country. On April 14th is the fifth urban golf tournament/barhop over in the North industrial neighborhood. The course consists of 13 holes in the finest industrial landscape Portland has to offer with the drinker in mind. No host libations will be available on 5 of the 13 holes. A map of the course will be available the week prior the tee off date and will be available at hole #1. Hole 1 starts at 938 N Cook Ave (the old location of Lovely Hula Hands)... Please try and use public transportation. Free street parking is available. Look at the signs to make sure its free on Saturdays. 1pm tee time.
What you will need:
1. Golf Club or clubs. Clubs can be purchased at any thrift store for under $2.
2. 3-6 colored tennis balls. Don't get your balls mixed up with someone else's. Paint or use a marker to give them your unique mark.
3. Golf attire. I'll leave it at that.
4. Max fare
Rules:
1. Keep score
2. If you loose a ball, add one stroke.
3. That's it….
Things to keep in mind….
1. Respect the urban landscape. Don't leave trash behind.
2. Don't be rude. Please try not to ruin this for the rest of us.

The best female lacrosse players in the United States will be competing during the second annual US Lacrosse Stars & Stripes Weekend from October 6-7 at the Tualatin Hill’s Park & Recreation Center in Beaverton. The U.S. Elite and Development teams will play exhibition games against collegiate teams from Cal-Berkeley, Oregon and Stanford to highlight the weekend’s activities. The Portland LumberJax will be on hand both days to provide information on the upcoming 2008 season.
Four girls club teams from California, Oregon, and Washington will also be part of the two-day series of games.
The U.S. Elite Team represents the highest level of playing experience for women’s lacrosse players and coaches in the United States, with the exception of a touring team. The U.S. Development Team serves as a means by which the adult lacrosse player can gain greater exposure to international competition and continue to develop her skills with the aim of becoming a member of the Elite or World Cup team.
Tickets are $5 for Saturday, $10 for Sunday, and $12 for a weekend pass. Tickets can be purchased at the event and are available online at www.uslacrosse.org. Children six and under will be admitted free of charge.

Every year the Regatta gets more and more exciting! Giant 600-pound pumpkin boats compete in one of the most unique races you have ever seen.
