BARR, the acronym used by Los Angeles-based Brendan Fowler for his solo projects, delivers his manic art-beat-punk amalgamation of half-sung, half-spoken songs mixed with jazz-based drum beats, hypnotic mantras and inspired confessional narratives. For TBA:07, BARR will perform his album Summary from start to finish, accompanied by bassist Corey Diekman, negotiating an artfully-choreographed dialogue between live and recorded solo performance. Summary is a raw emotional document of urban middle youth that spans five months of personal triumphs and failures, relationships, epiphanies, loss and growth.
Brendan Fowler is a regular performer at The Smell, a DIY music venue. He also co-runs Doggpony Records and is a co-editor of ANP (Artist Network Program) Quarterly—a Los Angeles-based arts and culture publication funded by RVCA. He recently played at The Kitchen, and has been featured in Artforum Magazine. In 2006 Fowler curated a show at David Kordansky Gallery in Los Angeles. His new electronic-folk-pop band, Car Clutch, had their debut performance in fall of 2006. He spends his off-time (when he finds some) playing in New England Roses with Sarah Shapiro and JD Samson (of Le Tigre).
