THE PORTLAND RADIO AUTHORITY PRESENTS:
PDX SPRING ELECTRONIC SHOWCASE
Seasonal benefit features Logan Lynn, Boy Eats Drum Machine,
Beatpusher, DJ Sappho and DJ Girlfriends
PORTLAND, Ore. — June 9, 2007 — Portland Radio Authority (www.praradio.org) presents its PDX Spring Electronic Showcase on Saturday, June 9 at 9 p.m. at Rotture, located at 315 SE Third Avenue, PDX. This season features sparkling, electro-layered beats from Logan Lynn, Boy Eats Drum Machine, DJ Girlfriends, Beatpusher and DJ Sappho . Cover is $3 to $5 sliding scale, 21 and over. Proceeds help keep the Portland Radio Authority up and running as well as helping to spread its warm, fuzzy and obsessed love of music.
Logan Lynn, described as “ an emo prophet with a penchant for electronic beats,” has been writing and recording his own music for the last decade. In 2000, his debut album “Glee” released a blissful, sex-drenched romp soaked with themes of religion, sexuality and identity alongside upbeat grooves and “Let’s dance!” rhythms. A blend of spleen-venting lyrics and optimism provides ample fodder for happy booty-shaking galore.
Boy Eats Drum Machine mixes fuzzy guitar and electro-fun turntables with deep, big-beat bass, touting influences ranging from anywhere from DJ Shadow to Neil Diamond, from Public Enemy to the Postal Service. Portland has given a lot of props to this trio, made up of three men on a mission to turn your heart into a chewy gummy bear.
Beatpusher thrives on modern madness to thump forth deep bass lines with melodic transcendental melodies, sampling world sounds with found sounds and creating a brain portal that forces your body into doing some sort of rhythmic gyration.
Known for her unusual ability to mix practically any and all styles of music ala a Cuisine-art, DJ Sappho makes sure no one leaves the dance floor without a layer of sweat, mixing disco to micro-house to cheese-pop to straight up techno. You dare not come to the club with your dancing shoes when you see her!
DJ Girlfriends is Portland's hot new party DJ. He holds it down at Rotture for the Thin Pink Line weekly with DJ Linoleum and also has a show on The PRA called RUBICON Radio with DJ Bonaparte. He spins any thing from new wave to nu rave, punk, house, drippy disco and indie pop.
