HOW DO YOU BUILD A 24,000 SQUARE FOOT INCUBATOR FOR CONTEMPORARY ART IN THE MIDDLE OF PORTLAND, OR?
DISJECTA Interdisciplinary Art Center is creating a sustainable, year-round exhibition space for contemporary arts that engages artists, patrons and communities in innovative ways.
We've had a great time in the belovedly raw Templeton Building over the last year. Disjecta hosted the kinds of creative endeavors and community events that make Portland Portland: PICA's TB:A festival, Seaplane's Little White Dress show; and the Mike Barber/Cydney Wilkes dance work A Certain Facilitation of Impasse. We've built our new white walls around the exquisitely curated Portland Modern Saturation and built more for the contemporary installations and performances of Haunted, which brought artists from SF, LA, NY and abroad to our fair city.
NOW, how do we anchor this big, beautiful building to shore? The only way that great ideas are born, the same way we've gotten this far—the power of the community who believe in what we do.
