A Benefit for 826 Valencia
Evany Thomas, Dustin Long, Lisa Brown, Zoe Trope, Stacy Bolt, Dr. Zomb at Nocturnal 1800 E Burnside

McSweeney's and Reading Frenzy present a special literary engagement to benefit 826 Valencia, a fantastic educational non-profit project devoted to helping students, ages 8-18, develop their writing skills in the realm of creative and expository writing, or English as a second language. Founded by Dave Eggers in 2002, 826 Valencia has grown from it's original storefront in San Francisco's Mission district, into a national program with 826 centers in Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Ann Arbor and New York City.

Ms. Thomas will be conducting a workshop based on the findings from her book, The Secret Language of Sleep: A Couples Guide to 39 Positions (McSweeney's, 2006), Dustin Long will read from his recently published novel, Icelander (McSweeney's, 2006) Lisa Brown will read an essay and present a video based on her children's book Baby, Mix Me A Drink (McSweeney's, 2005), Zoe Trope, author of Please Don't Kill The Freshmen: A Memoir (HarperTempest, 2004) will read recent work, and Stacy Bolt will read her essay "Tales From the Drunkside" To be followed by Q and A, and author's cocktail reception with DJ Dr. Zomb.
