GALLERY HOMELAND WILL HOST A RECEPTION AND FUNDRAISER IN SUPPORT OF "SCRATCHING THE SURFACE" AT MARK WOOLLEY GALLERY.
On Saturday, June 3rd, Gallery Homeland will hold a reception and fundraiser in support of "Scratching the Surface," a citywide art project taking place during the month of July that will acknowledge and embrace the Willamette River's central role in shaping the life and culture of Portland.
Mark Woolley Gallery (120 NW 9th, Suite 210)
June 3rd 6:30-8:30 pm
Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served
$5-10 sliding scale donation requested at the door.
The reception will feature a tribal belly dance performance by Urban Berbers, exciting raffle prizes from Portland artists and businesses, and a great chance to meet the directors and staff of Gallery Homeland and learn more about "Scratching the Surface."
“Scratching the Surface” will demonstrate Portland's rich and multifaceted arts and culture scene in an interesting and provocative manner. Collaboration and resourcefulness are at the heart of Portland’s grassroots arts successes. “Scratching the Surface” will capitalize on the talent and willingness of the creative community to dazzle the city. Along with help from City Commissioner Sam Adam’s Office, we will collaborate with other city organizations and creative professionals in many different capacities. At various docking spots along the river, artists will collaborate to present performances, dance, music, and interactive sculpture.
The community will be invited to all the varied events on the river and throughout the city that will make up the project: site specific installations, gallery exhibits, film and video presentations, lectures, and performance pieces. We’ll use the familiarity of the river and the comfort of a walk on the Esplanade to present creative work by many of Portland’s strongest emerging and established artists.
