The Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (a.k.a. POWFest) is excited to announce the upcoming festival scheduled to take place March 7 – 10, 2013 at the Hollywood Theatre.

In its 6th consecutive year, POWFest continues to be the only film festival in Portland exclusively placing a spotlight on women directors by showcasing their work and strengthening the community of women in film and one of only a handful of festivals in the U.S. dedicated to women-directed film. Our goal is to shift the world of women in film, one film at a time, and provide a women’s perspective to the stories seen on the screen by the general audience.

With a record number of entries for consideration this year, organizers have selected a broad range of nearly 100 selections that include Hollywood heavy hitters as well as newcomers, dynamic young filmmakers and outstanding local talent. The films focus on a wide variety of topics – Relationships, Mature Themes, Animation & Experimental, Mothers & Fathers, and Youth Created – and include thought-provoking content to engage the audience through conversations with the over 30 directors in attendance; encouraging dialogue well beyond the theater as well. POWFest is also honored to host the Portland preview of ROCK N ROLL MAMAS, the premiere of GABBY’S WISH, and for the third year LUNAFEST.

Each year, the festival honors a female pioneer in the filmmaking industry. This year, POWFest is proud to host Penelope Spheeris as our 2013 Guest of Honor. Her films DUDES, SUBURBIA and DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION III will be featured on Saturday, March 9th.

In addition to films, there will be a Screenwriting Workshop and Audio Workshop and social events to network and participate in.
