THREADS – The Realistic Nightmare of Nuclear War
The historic Hollywood Theatre is proud to hold a screening of THREADS, a horrific and realistic portrait of life after global thermonuclear war on January 21st at 7:30pm. THREADS dryly depicts two middle class families coming together when a son and daughter of each get married due to an unplanned pregnancy. As this mundane family drama plays out, news reports in the background describe an escalating conflict between the United States and Russia in the Middle East.
Produced by the BBC, THREADS is one of the most meticulous and graphic portrayals of what might happen if bombs were actually dropped: the enormous death toll and devastation; the lingering effects of fallout and social disintegration. All other contenders from the classic “On the Beach” to the notorious “The Day After” seem quite tame in comparison.
For almost half a century, the fear of nuclear war pervaded in the hearts and minds of citizens in the Western World. As a horror movie, THREADS is truly terrifying, the ultimate in realistic nightmares. It is also a chilling, sobering reminder of what is still possible even today.
