CHRIS KRAUS
A Reading as part of WEX…
Sunday, November 4, 3pm
Always do what will cost you the most. This seems to be the fundament of Chris Kraus’ work. She has her intelligence, which she guards like a wolf, and she has her willingness to fall to pieces in the work, and she has her aversion to a kind of placid safe-thinking, and with that she has become a household figure in contemporary literature. It is no small matter to become household by saying exactly what you think—to say it in your own words and without compromise. Kraus will read from her latest book, Summer of Hate. It is, like most of her work, a spill of theory, fiction, autobiography, and criticism.
The book was put out in 2012 by Semiotext(e) where Kraus edited the influential Native Agent Series for over two decades. The reading is presented with the Douglas F. Cooley Memorial Art Gallery and celebrates the release of Chris Kraus’ Kelly Lake Store & Other Stories, the second volume of the Cooley Gallery’s ongoing Companion Editions imprint. The book is edited by Stephanie Snyder, curator of the Cooley, and two guest editors Megan Stockton and Kylie Gilchrist. The book will be given away free to all attendees of the event and Summer of Hate will be available for sale. Thanks to Stephanie, Megan, and Kylie.
