6:00pm The Portrait Project @ FOCO

FOCO Gallery is pleased to announce The Portrait Project, an exhibition of fourteen Portland-based women artists. Conceived as a portrait chain, each artist involved is a creator and also a subject of a portrait; the result is an eclectic mix of work across varying media—painting, drawing, video, sculpture, and photography. With this project, the artists reinterpret a well-established genre in which women are often the muse and not the maker.

Fostering connections between artists that, in many instances, have never worked together before, first impressions lead to dynamic collaborations. With this assignment, process becomes more than a studio session and extends into the focused interaction between artist and sitter. Whether figurative or abstract, each work relays a story or emotion specific to its subject—a coalescing of conversations between the artists.

The Portrait Project features the work of: Hayley Barker, Nadia Buyse, Gianna Goodrich, Jessica Hickey, Britt Howard, Juleen Johnson, Kristan Kennedy, Oriana Lewton-Leopold, Elizabeth Malaska, Sarah Meadows, Lettie Jane Rennekamp, Victoria Reynolds, Marilyn Skalberg, and Samantha Wall. This exhibition is curated by Oriana and Gabi Lewton-Leopold.
