Strength
This irresistible disco trio is a total anomaly in Portland, and we mean that in the best way. Their bold sense of showmanship and syrupy pop sensibility makes for a larger-than-life concert experience, complete with dance moves and matching outfits. These gentlemen ooze charm from every pore, and their squeal-worthy lyrical romancing (“I wanna cover you with brandy/put you in my bed”) will surely make for a passionate dancefloor. A self-proclaimed “community disco” group, they will have everyone moving, clapping, and singing along.
We Like Cats
We Like Cats is a psychedelic-jammin’, cat-themed dub reggae supergroup featuring Honey Owens (Valet/Miracles Club), Adam Forkner (White Rainbow), and Eva Saelens (Inca Ore)! This will mark the 2nd-ever live appearance by these experimental heavyweights, following their debut performance (also at Holocene) earlier this year, which was one of the most unique and memorable dance parties of the summer. Enjoy the thickest vibrations as WLC transport us to tropical bliss and we pretend that Portland summer never ended…
Benoit Pioulard
Opening up the evening is Benoit Pioulard, the solo sound artist whose ambient landscapes are haunting and gorgeous. Arrive early to enjoy his stunning performance over a glass of cava – a moment of hushed reflection over a beautiful year. DJ Beyondadoubt Beyondadoubt, aka Casey Minatrea, is one of our town’s best-loved DJs, and we’ve been proud to have her behind the decks at Holocene for a myriad of 2010’s best parties, whether as a resident DJ for our gritty rap-based dance night Booty Bassment or playing one of her impeccable bounce sets alongside famed New Orleans sissy bounce artist Big Freedia. We welcome this ultra-talented lady to our New Year’s Eve festivities for the 2nd year in a row.
DJ Copy
Copy, aka keytar-wielding electro musician Marius Libman, will be lending his DJ skills to us this evening with a late-night dance set! Raised on synth pop, later playing in prog and punk bands, and eventually going DJ and record store clerk, Marius has always been musically obsessed with a variety of genres, citing influences as disparate as Herbie Hancock, Fugazi, and Dr. Dre. Expect his hodge-podge of influences to make for a totally original DJ set.
DJ Zac Eno
Resident DJ of our new monthly party Discos Discos, Zac Eno’s DJ sets are relentlessly energetic, manic explosions of digital cumbia, reggaeton, and other tropical bass sounds. We at Holocene knew that in 2010, we wanted a dance party that could showcase the boldest, sexiest, and most brilliant in the realm of “world music”, and Zac Eno has proven himself a very worthy sonic ambassador in those efforts with his extensive knowledge of Latin America’s explosively popular dance music.
Sex Life DJs
Setting the mood for the evening are the Sex Life DJs, aka Bobby Smith (DJ Vision Quest, formerly Bobby Dangerous) and Niko Kwiatkowski (DJ Stoned Werewolf), who have fast become Holocene’s go-to dudes this year, for their unparalleled ability to bring the “arty party”. Arthur Russell or the Dirty Projectors rub shoulders with feel-good disco groups in their inspired sets. Revel in their positive attitudes and well-stocked, eclectic crates.
