There is so much to know about the soil and the elements….I find everything myseterious. Whenever we have a success, I cling to it – like one year, we grew a lot of red russian kale in the summer. Who knew you could do that? So now I sell kale starts at farmer’s markets to dozens of people who say ‘um, are you sure you can grow this in summer?’

This was a bad year too, with the lack of rain – different patterns for weeds and bugs. If you look around you at the market, I think you will see other people struggling too. So to the list of factors you’re considering, add the one thing we definitely can’t fix – this past winter.

I hope you have lots of successes ahead of you as we cruise into summer and things even out. If you have any space to spare, my one piece of advice is to overplant like crazy. Can’t hurt, might help. You grow, girl.
