My step dad made beer and some of it exploded.

He refers to this product as “skunk water”. Each batch he makes has an extremely high alcohol content and basically guarantees powerful and almost instantaneous hangovers. Bottles have exploded in my cupboard of their own volition more than once. Recently, he got into leaving the raisins just floating in the bottle, like a booger or perhaps loogie, which he slurps with great satisfaction. The bottles he uses are just old beer bottle with the label only partially removed. I think that the extreme reticence we all feel about his weird booze is what really makes the experience for him.

When I lived in Western NY (maybe driving distance for you guys), I went to an old wine press that presses apples. I didn’t want to bother with the 2nd ferment business, so I made apple jack by freezing, pouring off the alcohol, throwing away the ice, freezing again until not much froze. That stuff’ll put hair on your chest! You might try it, especially if bottles explode and you have to deal with it.

p.s. what is that book you were talking about reading with all the goodness about the home, sounded like it was a DIY / maybe a history book???
