I’ve read “Cry to Heaven” so I knew which book you were referring to immediately. I did not know until I read this that it was based on the life of Farinelli, nor did I know about the sad historical sidenote of the failed castrati beggars – it reminded me of the scene in “Slumdog Millionaire” where the cruel criminal overlord purposely blinded a boy so he could make more money as a singing beggar.

Amazing, thank you! I’m glad Powell’s took the books as well. It’s fun to periodically see them there, dispersed amongst all the shelves. I will cherish your Burney!

You won’t be disappointed. It’s one of those novels that leave you with a small ache deep inside the core of your being.

Even more interesting, the reason I saw it is because Anne Rice posted about it on facebook … : )

I posted a link to your blog on my FB page. I am grateful Powell’s was willing to take those books. Otherwise they might have been destroyed, due to the markings, etc.
