Brian Libby has a great entry about the recently finished Armory on Portland Architecture.
Will anyone ever call it the Gerding Theater or Portland Center Stage? I feel like it's going to be called "The Armory" forever. But regardless of the name I can't wait to get a look inside. (There is an open house on Sunday, but I won't be able to make it.)
Update: The Oregonian article (only good for 14 days) and a nice piece in the Colombian.
Being that I am totally in love with Portland's Aerial Tram I was excited to hear that New York City had its own tram running from Manhattan to Roosevelt Island. Skipping the usual attractions, Curt and I headed down to 59th and 2nd to do a quick round trip. As great as it was, it was also pretty much just a big box. From what I have seen our tram is going to be much nicer!

The state of Oregon has been ranked as a "leading investor in wireless technologies" according to CDW Corp.'s State and Local Government Technology Investment Curve (as reported in bizjournals).
The ranking was based on strong public-private partnerships, significant private-sector leadership in generating wireless hotspots. initiatives often led by public safety, and strong execution at the county and city levels.
Interestingly, I just received a email from the city about the MetroFi contract for rolling out WiFi all over Portland. Logan Kleier, the project manager for Unwire Portland, told me that MetroFi is scheduled to have an initial build-out completed by the end of this year (downtown, Lloyd District, and near eastside) and the rest of the project is scheduled to be finished in mid-2008.
In other technology news, PortlandOnline.com tied for 5th place in the "Best of the Web" city portal category from the Center for Digital Government. While I am not a huge fan of PortlandOnline, I have to admit that it's not because there isn't a lot of info, but rather that it's just so darn difficult to find what you are looking for.
I suppose when you think of the number of cities in the US tying for 5th place is actually pretty impressive. (full list of winners)
Congrats e-Portland!
