Gotham Building Tavern Alumni

It's hard to spin the closing of Gotham Building Tavern into a future awesome for the City of Portland because it seems like I had just settled into a weekly argument of whether to go the Gotham Building Tavern or Colleen's for Sunday Brunch, and then they both closed. With my two favorites gone I went back to eating cereal at home and watching Loonatics Unleashed.

When the Colleen's space was invaded by someone else it felt like a slap in the face followed by a thrown drink. How dare you! I want Colleen's back! But as I came to grips with my new options for brunching I started to see the silver lining... Colleen's Bistro is now run by Gabriel Rucker, formerly sous-chef at Gotham Building Tavern, and the place is called Le Pigeon.

I also heard a rumor (overheard at a restaurant naturally) that the former chef from GBT who got hired at Apizza Scholls will be opening a new Italian style deli with the Apizza Scholls owner! Exciting!

Now I am just waiting for the news of Colleen French opening a new place and everything will be even more awesome than it was in the first place!

the boat houses' official stance is that someone, anyone, should open a coffee shop/cafe/what ever in the old gotham tavern space. please. perhaps it will be colleen? that would be sweeeet.

If Colleen moved into that space it would be delicious irony. Literally.

I hope the Italian deli rumor is true. Better delis would awesome-up the future of Portland.

Some really nice young fellows acquired the gotham tavern, and they asked me to provide some entertainment.

With the new staff / ownership, the place has taken on a dark edge that I think suits Portland well. Come check it out and give me a compare / contrast report. It's not officially open yet, but they are serving...
