I thought they were going to start the show late because all of the canopies had to be taken down in the square. Then a truck from Tuefels backs into the square taking “center” stage. The volunteers and the workers were busy loading plants with hand trucks, forklifts, all while the performance was getting started.
I loved the Shaft music before the show started, it brought me back 30 plus years. One of my favorite parts was watching two tri-met bus drivers in their bright orange vests standing by the light pole on the east side of the square. People would ask them what was going on. I could only read their body language. The actors- the two suits were performing near them. I would take my headphones off and I could hear nothing of the play.
My daughter and her friends were watching at the top of the square without the headphones. They could not figure out what was going on. I thought it was excellent, thought provoking and downright fun. Good way for me to close out TBA. I think having the extra background happenings juxtaposed with the two friends in the foreground was a perfect balance.
