I enjoyed the jaunty, stand-up presentation of Portland’s urban growth history. The neighborly disputes felt all too real (may I suggest they add one about parking, that’s our favorite icy-interaction topic). The home-buying tightrope dancers told a sweet ugly story. Most exciting for me however was the finale in which we built a city in real time. Performers’ urgent voices asked for “Hospital, we need a hospital!” and “More green spaces, please!” as the ruler-wielding artist’s hand flew. The drawing was projected onto table top screens and upon the wall as voices crescendoed. A perfect expression of the beautiful chaos that is our fast growing city. -SH
