I’d argue that the show as presented by Dickson is indeed a farce, regardless of his own “sell out” status. It’s a light, one-man drama full of parody and over-the-top observations. Is Sell Out a probable path for most people? Of course not, Dickson implies as much in the program notes when he talks of the personal nature of the work and grounds the whole thing in the more serious issues of the day. It doesn’t mean that Dickson isn’t really is getting a fat check from Wieden + Kennedy. He is… and you could too.
