Well, if you ever want a puppet show that attendees will actually enjoy, give me a call.

I wrote a show called “the Whacky Adventures of Lewis and Clark” which has been touring to schools, libraries, museums and puppetry festivals over the past three years (to great reviews). When I read about Blinglab’s show, I became concerned that our similar products might get confused in the public mind. I am not as concerned about this now, but I am still wondering, PICA: Why were they chosen and not us?

The performers at Blinglab are clearly not puppeteers and have no business promoting themselves as such. Neither are they playwrights. They seem to have been awarded this gig solely because of their connections in the local art scene and the show only sold out becasue it was never reviewed. (Jollyship has a catchy musical component but there too the puppetry was lame) Hey PICA, wake up and write down these names:Britan’s Green Ginger Puppet Theater, Petite Miroir and Cie Coatimundi both from France, Bread and Puppet, Paul Zaloom and Portland’s own Oregon Shadow Theater, Hand-to-Mouth and the Dim Sum Puppet Opera (who performed with Ten Tiny Dances on Thursday night). Puppetry is an important component of a well-rounded performance art festival but your choices this year give puppetry a bad name.
