Well, I'm not sure I totally understand the question, but I meter the same way most of us do...
Sometimes I don't meter at all, like all of these in Italy, they are un-metered because I packed light. Other times I use my Sekonic DualMaster, though rarely the spot-meter.
I always meter flash/strobe light, and less often natural light.
It all depends on what I am shooting, where, and why...
I have no idea if that answers your question.
