Documentaries You Will Like
by kmikeym

I ordered "Sandwiches You Will Like" and "A Hotdog Story" from the PBS website because it seemed very similar to the type of films I would like to make. After watching the 'Sandwiches' film we looked at the extras, which showed a bunch of other Rick Sebak films, many of which I will probably purchase.

The subjects of his films are so perfect. Hot Dogs, Sandwiches, Amusement Parks, Things That Aren't There Anymore, Ice Cream, Flea Markets and so many more things. There was a reference to them as "scrapbook documentaries". He narrates the documentaries and he is so enthusiastic that he makes you want to map out a trip going to each and every place. The Amazon review says, Rick's programs may make you want to travel. The New York Daily News has said, "Rick Sebak is not a filmmaker. He's a brainwasher. He's a brainwasher because you can't watch one of his effervescent films without having a very strong urge to follow in his footsteps and experience firsthand the places he presents so compellingly."

I can't find any "official" website for Rick Sebak, but the WQED site has a pretty full bio.

There are two great interviews (RealPlayer, boo!) on the sidebar of Annonline.com (Ann Devlin).

Note: Visit Philippes when in LA.
