On Friday at 11:02 am, I officially finished my Metabolism course with a stellar performance on the last exam of 2003. I only assume that said performance was stellar, based of course on previous experience (and on my desparate hope to make up for my last poor score). If I don't do well enough, I can blame it all on mike.

He developed a very untimely rash, which forced me to look after him, make an akward and time-consuming consultation with my dermatologist preceptor, and accompany him to the clinic on the night before the test - all of which time I should have been studying! To be fair, was able to get some studying done at the clinic, though flickering fluorescent lights and loud indigent people didn't exactly make for the best study environment. And I didn't even get to put in mike's stitches. What a waste of time.

But now I'm done! And ahead of me lie two entire weeks without studying. And to reward myself for a year of hard work, I watched Lord of the Rings - Return of the King last night. Oh my god. So good. So very good. I am not ashamed to admit that I cried more than once, and my heart was genuinely pounding during some of the scenes. I am probably more emotionally invested than most people, but it was so wonderfully intense! But now, sadly, its over. The fate of LOTRIG lies on the edge of a knife. Stray but a little and it will fail, to the ruin of all.

If you were to go
by fiona

If you were to go into the mail room in the OHSU School of Medicine, in addition to rows of mail slots and three decrepid PC's, you would see a large bulletin board. On that board you would see areas, deliniated by blue construction paper, devoted to the goings-on of the numerous interest groups that we students participate in. You would see EMIG (Emergency Medicine Interest Group), FMIG (Family Medicine Interest Group), and other IG's devoted to Surgery (SIG), Internal Medicine (IMIG), and Psychology (PIG). Then, in the far corner, you would see an area designated for a different kind of interest group: LOTRIG.

Lord of the Rings Interest Group.

I, Fiona M. Garlich, am the founder and co-chair.

Tonight we are sponsoring our first event - a viewing of "The Fellowship of the Ring" on the big screen in our lecture hall. The hall seats 100. We are expecting all of 6, maybe 8 people. I think the high predicted turn out can be attributed to the life size cut out of Legolas that we placed in the hallway. Nothing like a fearsomely dashing elf to lure people back to shool on a friday night. I am wallowing in nerdiness right now and I love it!
