Marlins and Mixxes.
by maxx
Sooooo Yesterday was my birthday. Ill tell you all about it! I woke up at 8am and David Chandler and his gal Julie were sleeping downstairs on my Aerobed®. AWESOME!!!! I went to work really tired cause i was up late talking to the friends. I fugured that they would let me out early number 1 because it was my birthday. number 2 its half day summers. But alas, I didn't get outta there til 7. Thats alright money is good. I ended up going home vowing to nap. I ran in to Maria of marquet on my way home. And made her come over and have a drink with me for my big day. We did. It was great. Carey called in the middle of all that. I was really excited to talk to her but she had to get off the phone really fast.. It's expensive to call from poland. I know it. But i was soooooo good to hear from her. I miss That Lady a whole bunch. After that I watched SAW and talked to people on the phone. No Nap sucky. Then ran out took a cab to go see David play at Tonic with eats tapes. It made me sweat and dance. Lots of great folks there. Jim, shel, crito, samuel, peter, anna. It was weird too. This year there were soo many people celebrating peoples birthdays on my birthday. I mean i met at leats 10 people last night with my birthday. Nyc is where we all meet up i guess. pretty strange. Then I left tonic at like 1230 i was fairly sloshed at this point and decided to go to the cake shop (my work). I went with samuel and anna i was a crazy rock show. everyone was going nuts. slam dancing. been awhile since ive seen that. black cat 2003. stay there for a few. got cupcakes and left. then we went back to my house had a drink listened to a record or 2. and they left. i was alone. so i called evryone at most of the bars that i know and had them hand out a free shot for me. and then i passed out. great birthday!!!! Just wish Carey was here for it. BTW thank you for the amazing gift!!!! Fly away. yessss.

Blind Teen Amazes With Video-Game Skills
By SCOTT BAUER, Associated Press WriterWed Jul 27, 5:25 PM ET
Brice Mellen is a whiz at video games such as "Mortal Kombat."
In that regard, the 17-year-old isn't much different from so many others his age.
Except for one thing: He's blind.
And as he easily dispatched foes who took him on recently at a Lincoln gaming center, the affable and smiling Mellen remained humble.
"I can't say that I'm a superpro," he said, working the controller like an extension of his body. "I can be beat."
Those bold enough to challenge him weren't so lucky. One by one, while playing "Soul Caliber 2," their video characters were decapitated, eviscerated and gutted without mercy by Mellen's on-screen alter ego.
"I'm getting bored," Mellen said in jest as he won game after game.
Blind since birth when his optic nerve didn't connect because of Leber's disease, Mellen honed his video game skills over the years through patient and not-so-patient playing, memorizing key joystick operations and moves in certain games, asking lots of questions and paying particular attention to audio cues. He worked his way up from games such as "Space Invaders" and "Asteroid," onto the modern combat games.
"I guess I don't know how I do it, really," Mellen said, as he continued playing while facing away from the screen. "It's beyond me."
Mellen knows this much: He started playing at home when he was about 7.
"He enjoyed trying to play, but he wasn't very good at first," said his father, Larry Mellen. "But he just kept on trying. ... He's broken a lot of controllers."
When the question of broken controllers comes up, Mellen flashes a smile and just shrugs.
"I used to have quite a temper," he said. "Me and controllers didn't get along very well."
Now they get along just fine.
While playing "Soul Caliber 2," Mellen worked his way through the introductory screens with ease, knowing exactly what to click to start the game he wanted.
He rarely asked for help. Once the game started he didn't need any help.
"How do I move?" an exasperated opponent, Ryan O'Banion, asked during a battle in which his character is frozen in place.
"You can't," Mellen answered before finishing him off.
"That's what happens. It's why I don't play him," O'Banion said after his blood-spattered character's corpse vanishes from the screen.
How Mellen became so good is a mystery to his father.
"He just sat there and he tried and tried until he got it right," Larry Mellen said. "He didn't ever complain to me or anyone about how hard it was."
Mellen hangs out any chance he gets at the DogTags Gaming Center in Lincoln, which opened last month. Every now and then someone will come in and think he can easily beat the blind kid.
That attitude doesn't faze Mellen.
"I'll challenge them, maybe. If I feel like a challenge," he said, displaying an infectious confidence. "I freak people out by playing facing backwards."
There's nothing he likes better than playing video games, Mellen said.
He will be a senior in high school next year. After graduation, he plans to take a year off because he wants a break from school.
When he does go to college, Mellen wants to study — what else? — video-game design.
Til next time.

PETS IN THE NEWS.
by maxx
SNIPPET FROM http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,163491,00.html

"Aleaxa is looking for someone who likes long walks, hanging out at the beach and maybe even an occasional "roll in the hay."
Her online dating profile reads like many posted by young women looking for a beau in the big city. But Aleaxa isn't just any woman. In fact, she's not a woman at all: She's a 5-month-old Bichon Frise.
That's right. Dogs have online dating profiles now — just the latest element of the modern pooch's lifestyle, which is becoming more like that of their two-legged companions every day.
Robert Yau, 37, the founder of the Web site where Aleaxa trolls for doggie dates, says the digital lifestyle of the 21st century has separated people more than it has united them. The result? People dote on their pets more. Yau's datemypet.com rakes in over 50,000 users each month."

SEATTLE: A Seattle man died after engaging in anal sex with a horse at a farm suspected of being a gathering place for people seeking to have sex with livestock, police said on Friday.
The horse involved in the incident was not harmed, and an autopsy of the unnamed man concluded that "the manner of death was accidental ... due to perforation of the colon," a police spokesman said.
"The information that we have is that people would find this place via chat rooms on the Web," said Sgt. John Urquhart of the King County Sheriff's department.
Although sex with animals is not illegal in Washington state, Urquhart said that investigators were looking into whether the farm, located in Enumclaw, 40 miles (64 kilometers) southeast of Seattle, allowed sex with smaller animals that resulted in animal cruelty, which is a crime.
"If you're talking about sheep or goats, there could be some issues,"Urquhart said.

Local prosecutors are apparently in a bind: How do they charge a blind Tallahassee man who has been accused of having sex with his guide dog?
Florida, like many other states, has no bestiality statute - that is, a law specifically prohibiting sexual contact between humans and animals.
So Alan Yoder, 29, originally was charged with felony animal cruelty, but court records show that charge was dropped last Friday and replaced with a misdemeanor - disorderly conduct.
Yoder now is charged with a "breach of the peace, by engaging in sexual activity with a guide dog," according to a court document.
One of two prosecutors on the case, Assistant State Attorney Owen McCaul, did not return a call Thursday. The other, Assistant State Attorney Stephanie Usina, said she could not answer specific questions, including explaining why the charge was lowered to a misdemeanor.
Yoder, reached by telephone Thursday, declined to be interviewed. James D. Varnado, his attorney, said he has filed a not-guilty plea on his client's behalf but declined to discuss details of the case.
"However lurid the allegations may be, we should resist a rush to judgment," he said.
Here's what happened, according to Tallahassee police reports:
Yoder, who lives in a local apartment complex, last month asked a female acquaintance to join him in a sex act with the dog, a male yellow Labrador named "Lucky."
She demurred, but later told a friend about it. That person called a social worker, who called police.
Investigators spoke to Yoder on June 16, who admitted performing certain sex acts with the dog, even going into detail with them, but denied doing others. He was arrested and booked June 22, charged with animal cruelty.
An animal-control officer took the dog to Dr. Sondra Brown, a veterinarian at Northwood Animal Hospital, who could not determine whether the dog had been sexually abused.
Warren Goodwin, who recently retired after 30 years as an assistant prosecutor, said he could not recall a similar case in Leon County.
Annemarie Lucas, a New York-based special investigator for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said sexual contact with animals "probably happens more than it's actually reported."
Bestiality - illegal in New York state - is "just not a natural thing," she said. "Animals can't consent ... They're probably fearful and in physical pain. It's like any kind of abuse.
"It's a cowardly act," added Lucas, who also appears on "Animal Precinct," a program on the Animal Planet cable-television network. "It's a domination thing, something an animal would never instigate."
Stephanie Shain, spokeswoman for the Humane Society of the United States, said her organization takes a similar position.
"It's doing something to an animal that they have an inability to stop," Shain said.
Last year, an Ocala man pleaded no contest to felony animal cruelty after being charged with having sex with his then-fiancee's female Rottweiler, according to the Pet-Abuse.com Web site.
A judge withheld adjudication and ordered five years of probation and a psychological evaluation. He also prohibited the 27-year-old man from "owning pets of any kind while on probation and from having unsupervised contact with other people's pets," the site said.

Angela Lansbury, was scheduled to have knee replacement surgery on Thursday. "Her knee is so painful from years of dancing," her daughter says.
The 79-year-old actress tripped on an electrical cord Friday night while joining other celebrities onstage for Stephen Sondheim's 75th-birthday concert at the Hollywood Bowl. The slip had nothing to do with her plans for surgery, Battarra said.

poop in a group.
by maxx
well tonight its 3:28am i am sitting bed thinking that i have to be up at 8am. i think they should make more hours in a day. i think it would be a good move. i have 5 jobs right now i am going crazzzzy. but starting to see signs of it, money! pretty much a good thing for right now. carey is in poland living in a castle studing. i am just tring to keep busy with work so i dont have to think about it,. i miss the lady. i started working at a place called AHG its a clothing company, i am in the womens design department. we work on blouses and shirts for like jc penny. again crazy. but tonight i worked at a new record stouree/cafe/music club called cake shop. its nice. good dudes. ive been getting all kinds of records. nyc has a great selsction lately ive been buying the hits. ive never been a hit player. but ive decide to have some of them intermixed. i read a nice thing about record collecting. a snip from it. some dude Benni B, head of ABB records.
"I buy music to listen to and play for folks. As far as collecting. it's more of a love of music than a love of collecting records. It's like you're a cook and you have a spice rack and you like a lot of spices, you have a bigger spice rack than some cooks. People always want to know, well how many records do you have? It doesn't matter. The real question is, how do you play and work with what you have. Instead, it's like a game that people like to play, try to test your knowledge and shit. All I can say is that I've seen records come and go... You can sit here and tell me you have fifty thousand records, but you know what? You can't go out and play them all at one time. You may think, like, "Okay, it's going to make me seem cool, it's going to put me in the in-crowd." Guess what? You pull out that $700 eBay joint while DJing a party, an attractive woman comes up and asks, Could you spin some Prince for me?" and you're like, "No, I have this $700 Wayne McGhie record." That's the reality of record collecting right there."
"Every record that I ever bought was because I either wanted to listen to it or play it for others... That was one of the most rewarding things about doing radio. Discussing the music, the artists. I never just bought records to put them on the shelf as trophies. C'mon now, I'd rather put the money into my company, and invest in people. No matter how many records you got, you can't take them with you when you leave."
as for life its good. i need to get out of the city for awhile. this place can be a bit overwellming. i just wanna go camping. i miss trees. damn hippy.
records i got today.
Dynamix II - give the dj a break
telex - moscow disco
eddy grant - electric ave.
have a good night kids.
