The evening went well; J

The evening went well; J spent a majority of the day with helping my friend pack up and then a bunch of us helped transfer it all to a storage unit and then all went out for dinner. It was predictably bittersweet.

We were supposed to have met with the DJ last night but, obviously, we had to postpone a few days. I’m starting to get nervous about the music. I think everything will go fine the day of, but there’s so much planning that has to been done to ensure there aren’t any major snags. Some of the things that keep me not too worried are the horror stories I’ve heard about other friends’ weddings. My friend Joey has a real classic about being asked to do the music at a friend’s wedding. They were going for real low-key, so he made up a bunch of mix cds, carefully calibrated to the couple’s taste, and brought them to the wedding.

Moments before the ceremony, the mother takes him aside and says, “We’re big fox trotters in this family! I hope you’ll be playing a lot of fox trots.” Joey thought, Oh shit, because OF COURSE there were no fox trots on the cds, as no one had mentioned anything like that to him. He apologized and said he only had the cds with him and that, unfortunately, no one had said anything about fox trots. Her face fell, but she tried to be a good sport about it. When the reception rolled around, it turned out the music system they’d prepared was in fact the daughter’s boom box propped up on a table. This was problematic for two reasons, the first being that people on the other side of the room couldn’t hear the music, the second being that the people sitting next to it were deafened and kept going over and turning the music down after someone would turn it up. This went on for awhile until the whole thing just up and completely died.

This is the story I turn to when I need reassurance.

Will you bear me one more wedding thingy? A question actually: when my wedding band gets put on my finger during the ceremony, is my finger supposed to be bare? Do I take my engagement ring off and then put it on again later? Or does the band go on top of my engagement ring even though I will eventually wear it under? These things I do not know.

In other news, word on the street is that Sweet Lucy found an apartment in the heart of Park Slope. I am very excited for her, but also jealous.

Okay, are you ready for a really cool bug picture from Eva? Here!
