Time To Buy A Bike?

My scooter appears to have been stolen last night. Sometime between 9pm and 9am, parked by the bike rakes at the Fresh Pot on Mississippi. My insurance expired on the 7th of August.

I'll file a police report but I don't expect it to be recovered. My insurance cost $137 for the year, full coverage. I let it lapse 21 days (about $7.88 if you calculate the insurance by day) and now I am out about to $2000 dollars.

As far as how it was taken, I find that hard to imagine. It was heavy, and also the steering column was locked. I suppose someone could have either lifted it into a truck or perhaps broke/picked the steering column lock. As this is the second scooter I've had stolen from me I'm not very excited about a replacement. We're entering the fall/winter season so I probably didn't have a lot of riding ahead of me.

I do enjoy the freedom of mobility it gave me, and that is something I would like to replace. A car seems so expensive for my limited trips within the city, and while I have had a hard time picking up the bicycle habit, perhaps now is the time to look into it.
