Running The Loop

| | Comments (1)

I like how 405 and I-5 form a weird circle around downtown Portland. I've wondered how long it takes to circle that loop for a while, and on Saturday we did a test run, starting at 23rd and Vaughn, going south on 405 (the "trench") and then looping to north on I-5 over the Marquam Bridge and back over the Fremont to return to 23rd and Vaughn. 9:05.37 seemed like a pretty normal time.

I took a FlexCar out for a drive on Sunday. Willow and I went up 30 and then dove into the woods at St. Helens to take a series of small and twisty roads to Vernonia.

After the drive I ran the loop in 7:36.6. So, that would be the current record. :)

My frineds who ride motorcycles site this loop as the "proving grounds" for true highway riding readiness. The merges, trucks, the hills, and the many lanes of traffic are good simulations for big highway trips.
