Moving to Planet Argon
Following the advice of my technical advisor and initial largest shareholder I am moving the hosting of KmikeyM.com over to PLANET ARGON. Greg Borenstein has built the exchange using Ruby on Rails, and PLANET ARGON is very involved in very involved in Ruby on Rails development. The company founder, Robby Russell, is writing a Ruby on Rails book for O'Reilly!
Warning: This means that my email may bounce for a bit as things go down and then get rebuilt on the new server. So what is this "Ruby on Rails" business anyway? Greg explains it better than I could:
Ruby on Rails is an open source system that makes it really easy to build dynamic websites.
A Rails website is simply a series of scripts and templates written in the programming language Ruby. The system helps the programmer accept data submitted by users through web forms, process it, save it into a database, and display it on web pages as needed.
Some current popular sites built using Ruby on Rails include Basecamp, Twitter, and CD Baby. (and also Greg's Grabb.it)
Show Me The Money
This is the third time I've spent money on the IPO process. The first was for the printed share certificates, the second was for the building of the exchange itself, and now the hosting. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to earn that same amount of money back from selling the stock.
IPO Cost Breakdown
| Exchange Programming | $750.00 |
| Share Certificates | $500.00 |
| Hosting (1 year) | $250.00 |
Pre-IPO Shares Issued To Date
| Greg Borenstein | 350 |
| Jona Bechtolt | 100 |
| Matthew Stadler | 50 |
| Rob Thompson | 10 |
| Printed Shares | 200 |
| Veneer Promo | 300 |
| Shares Issued | 1010 |
| Total Shares | 100000 |
| Outstanding | 98990 |
It's very interesting to me who has shares at this point and that I have spend $1500 on this process. Certainly many of these things could have been done cheaper, but I'm not complaining about the price. I'm happy to invest time and money into this! It's just that my vision of this project was always something like two months down the road, and working on the pre-launch phase involves people and places I didn't initially think of, which is pretty exciting. Sort of a "Building Social Networks Via New Projects" system.
