In the context of humanising machine-based structures, my personal feeling is that the aesthetic would be even better augmented by the personality underneath. In fact, my greatest fear with the development of humanised machinery is that it escapes this augmentation ( and for those bothered about the same risk, I’ve written about that here: http://www.jonathanmacdonald.com/?p=5511 )

But in the main, the thing I like about the faces found in objects is how they trigger our decisions and actions. The choice architecture catalysed by the humanisation presents many opportunities for advanced engagement.
