I was trying not to make it totally French, but I guess failed somewhat.
As far as GNU goes, I know that the joke seems like it should hinge on the ‘g’ being silent, but that’s definitely not the actual practice. Even Richard Stallman himself pronounces it and I’ve never heard any developer do otherwise.

(1) I always thought Goddard is pronounced Godd-ard, like a good old Amur-ican, not like the French New Wave.
(2) I know that in gnu the “g” is silent. That’s part of the recursive joke in the GNU acronym…
