interesting read, it is strange how hypem works, and really clever! I recently found out about it trying to find an alternative music discovery service to Pandora, which is no longer available for my country.
… I think the music industry should somehow embrace this service, not with a “pay to play” approach but to sevice the people who still really like music, mashing it up and sharing it.

As mentioned in the post, to download a mp3 you have to go to the blog post and download there. Most of the time, it has already been removed from the post (but not from hypem streaming servers). Since the Hype Machine updated their website in october 2007, they've changed the streaming player, and the links cannot be retrieved as easily. Tom at EchoDitto has posted a way to get the mp3 links directly. And a friend of mine has created a greasemonkey script that adds direct mp3 download links to The Hype Machine.
