Last fall I made a shrug, actually the first official wedding shrug, for a client named Kristen. She sent me some vintage lace that was her great grandmothers and I designed a elegant shrug to go with her vintage style La Sposa gown. She mentioned that her wedding might get some press- and sure enough she emailed to tell me yesterday that there is a four page spread in the August issue of Modern Bride.

Kristen, besides besides being the most gorgeous bride, also owns a wedding videography company called Bliss Productions and her work is really stylish

My husband always jokes that I am an etsy superstar. Joking aside, I can't say enough about how awesome Etsy is. Etsy is partly how I make a living, my job. I think of myself as part of this huge network but it has always been a little mysterious to me since I am just working alone in my studio. In January I got to meet someone who actually works for Etsy, Eric Beug and his girlfriend Kelly Hudson. After they shot the video, we had lunch and I got to ask all the questions I have been curious about. What is the strangest thing they had seen for sale on etsy? A full size handmade covered wagon apparently. Who started Etsy and how is it doing in the new doom and gloom economy? Amazingly good, with record sales over Christmas.
People often ask me why I don't focus on growing my business with more wholesale accounts the way that most clothing designers do. The same people are also surprised to hear that I am not interested in having my clothing mass produced or sold in department stores. While I do add a new boutique from time to time, my designs really lend themselves to be sold directly to customers since they are often one of kind or small runs. Etsy has also allowed me to sell to people all over the world, with about 30% of my sales to international customers.
Here is the video that Eric and Kelly shot featuring my custom wedding shrugs... thanks you guys, it looks great!
I am so excited to see this out on the stands! I pointed it out to a woman behind me in Fred Meyer that I had made the dress and I don't think she believed me. If you are interested in the dress, please contact me. The price is $775 and the shrug is $165

Please come by and say hello!
For those of you that have emailed me about my participation (or lack there of) in Portland Fashion Week, thank you! My studio mate Laura Irwin and I will be having a studio opening to show off our new lines in November. There is construction going on in our building and a very ugly green dumpster parked outside our front door, so as soon as it moves we will be setting a date.
In the meantime here are some new pictures shot by Josh Elliott and clothing modeled by Zoe Mattheisen. Zoe is also going to be interning with me in the studio which I am really excited about since she is a doll and also the perfect fit model.
Also a special thank you to Kira Pinski for the hair and Anna Webber for the make-up
It is has been a busy summer, but on August 12th it got really busy when orders and custom requests from this Daily Candy post started coming in. I am just now getting caught up! I was asked within days of one another by both the Washington D.C. edition and the Seattle edition- but the D.C. edition beat Seattle to the punch.
