And So It Came To Pass That Half & Half Discovered "Blogging"
Hello, and welcome to the brand new Half & Half blog, in which we will attempt to create a true Half & Half "experience" in cyberspace. "What the hell is Half & Half, some kind of gender-bender-liberal agenda freakshow?" is routinely asked by the unwitting passerby. And we are most of those things, but primarily we are small and humble cafe in downtown Portland, OR USA serving mouth-watering sandwiches, pie, and deviled eggs among other delicacies. And we're friendly, attractive, extremely funny and entertaining and you'll just love us. We swear to God.
Writing to you today is Robin, founder and matriarch, and chief blogger. It's taken me the better part of the week to write this introduction. Call it posting-fright. It's just an intimitating prospect, one better left to do later on in the day until it's the next day, and so on until it's not done. So in an effort to get onto other things, here it is.
The last three weeks at Half & Half have been plagued with Credit Card Machine Problems. Don't get me started on these so called "merchant services" companies, I'll save that for another post but suffice it to say that as of this moment our credit card machine is down, probably until Tuesday or Wednesday. Cash and checks are always our preffered means, but at this moment essential.
In other, happier news, monday is supposed to be 88 degrees and we are selling homemade ice-cream sandwiches. They are based on these cookies my mother used to make in the 80's-You could eat 7 or 8 without even noticing. Thin, buttery chocolate wafers, a little bit crisp, a little bit chewy, smooshed between vanilla or coffee ice cream. uh, yum.
Other feature items this week include: Cherry-rhubarb pie, peach pie, potato salad, a nicoise-style sandwich with excellent line-caught spanish tuna, and a turkey sandwich with bosc pears and aged gouda.
Also, new (old) Half & Half shirts are in production, and more beer cozies are slated next. Adios!

Please don't put capers or anchovies on the nicoise... that's what elephants does and it ruins a perfectly good sandwich. also, bring back the frazier.
Maybe two times the hard boiled egg instead.
Well done and happy blogging!
Looks stellar, Bin! Wish I could pop in for a perfect latte and one of your amazing sandwiches, but alas, it's a *very* far flight from Austria. Miss you and the H&H much.
Your vittles kick my breakfast's butt! (Kashi TLC, slice of cheese, and strawberries). This is what I was eating in Mid-Missouri when I dropped in on the blog this AM. Where is H&H when I need it? Where are you when I need you, Mistress Robin?
Please, I am intrigued by the breakfast sandwich I once heard a customer order. I believe I heard him say, "I'd like a 'Jelly.'" Please, I would like to hear more about what a 'Jelly' is? It did not appear to contain jelly. Please, if you could tell me more, perhaps as the subject of one of your web-log entries?
Thank you.
Howdy Robin, This here is a beautiful thing you are doing. You could make a million dollars here with a half and half, coffee in NYC really stinks. I miss you.
Love
Keith
I wanna be drunk!
Have you ever put jalapeno jelly on a sandwich? It improves almost any deli sandwich. Hope to see you soon.
I went to the "rave" at Half and Half and have to say that it was not all it was cracked up to be. I had to pay $11 for a whistle and it turned out that management had unscrewed the taps from the faucets so I had to pay another $10 for a bottle of water. At least I had buried my pills the night before so nobody found anything on me when I went in. Also, DJ Help Me was amazing, very uplifting, particularly as I am one of the few Jesus freaks at these things. Hey Bin, when are you going to put in a real chill out room, with aquarium and hammerheads?
In Burlingame - just South of SF - It's-it makes an ice cream sandwich: vanilla ice cream between 2 oatmeal raisin cookies and coated in dark chocolate. They also have a version ice cream between chocolate chip cookies. They started selling them on the beach in 1928. Now they make 100,000 a day. They are packaged and sold in stores there and in school cafeterias.
Hey Robin,
When I was last in Portland, I tried to find your place in the Yellow Pages, but forgot the name. I am sure your shop makes Portland a better city, and I hope you have every success.
Take care,
Elliott
I LOVE THE HALF AND HALF!
