But the Vancouver lot wasn't director Matt McCormick's first choice for the ""Australia" video - or even his second.

"As a director, I'm always looking for stuff that makes good visual images and metaphors," McCormick said.
He liked the idea of balloons being tied down, released and floating away. "That can be interpreted a lot of ways."
McCormick originally pitched the same video concept for the album's first single, "Phantom Limb," but he said the band felt the video's lighthearted treatment didn't fit the down-tempo song.
McCormick said he agreed that the band members were right.
"It wasn't really right for the song, but I was so excited for the idea that I gave it to them, anyway."
