Another Sighting In Vegas

More news of UrbanHonkers hanging out with the famous! This time it's none other than Russian comedian Yakov Smirnoff:

OMG! LOOK WHO WE SAW!

Willow remarked, "He was greasy and he smelled like communism." She then held up her hand up to the nose of Steve Schroeder and said, "Smell my hand! It smells like Yakov!"

CMJ's Album of the Day: Zome

CMJ.com has White Rainbow's Zome as their Album of the Day!

WHITE RAINBOW: Zome
- Paul Haney
If Zome is the first major White Rainbow release, and it will be followed by a five-disc box-set of older material on Marriage Records. Zome is also said to be "an audio love letter to Honey Owens" (of Jackie-O Motherfucker fame). If Zome is any indication, Adam Forkner's (a.k.a. [[[[VVRSSNN]]]]) White Rainbow venture aims to occupy the more serene and pretty realms of the improv-heavy, post-rock spectrum. The ringing guitar tones that open "Guilded Golden Ladies" give way to four more pieces of gorgeous ambient guitar chiming, skittery beats and sparse accompaniment, all prefacing the 20-minute tranquil buzz of the title track. Forkner avoids cluttering the already dense post-rock field with a compellingly soothing sound, the kind of record to listen to while lying in the sun all afternoon.

But stick with us. These guys are on to something.

Mike Merrill, Steve Schroeder and Jona Bechtolt run a website with the ungainly name UrbanHonking.com. Even in the jargon-enriched environment of the Internet, it's hard to find a single word that accurately describes Urban Honking. Call it a blog of blogs--an invitation-only family of dozens of different Web diaries, loosely united by a certain aesthetic and the fact that Merrill, Schroeder and Bechtolt, well, are fond of them.
