Jensen at Disjecta

jensenline.jpg

friday night I went to see Derrick Jensen speak. I photographed him for the last issue of Arthur Magazine, and was very interested to see his talk. He is even more of a rock star than I expected, at least in the world of anarchists, environmentalists and philosophers, the line stretched down the block.

He has written many fine books, The Language of Make Believe is my favorite so far. Check out www.derrickjensen.org for more info, or www.arthurmag.com for a pdf of the interview and photos.

leopards, etc

ok, this takes the cake for awesome appearances at my work. Cheetahs! Live effing cheetahs! Since I work in a very fancy "architect" building, many organizations have fundraisers there for various causes. Usually it means I have to go the long way to drop off fedexes etc, get around the building, weird catering people asking annoying questions, a general pain. But this was incredible, to get to sit 10 feet away from an actual cheetah. They are beautiful and they purr. These were "educational cheetahs", and where did they come from?

shanghai clothes 11 x 14 $120

so I was just awarded a Caldera Arts Residency which I am very excited about, basically I get to hole up in the mountains and print a million pictures of Girls Rock Camp. Also teach a class of middle schoolers how to make zines, and maybe chop some wood. I am so honored and excited to have a break from city life and my busy life and just focus on making good photos.
Unfortunately the residency starts in two weeks, and as a result I haven't had a chance to save any money for paper and photo chemicals. Photography (especially if you are mostly analog like me) is a very expensive art form to be into. I guess bronze casting is worse but how many times have I wished I just did pencil drawing.....

so here is my plea -- buy my photos.

I went through my studio and pulled out many gems for you to peruse. Please also send this link to your friends and relatives. I am being shameless but I need to buy a lot of photo paper. The prices include domestic shipping, and all the bxw pictures are hand printed by me. You can click on the photos to see a bigger version. Paypal with your address and which photo to: dictionarybreath via yahoo dotting com. you can also email me at the same addy if you don't do paypal.

UPDATE: Just realized I forgot a few bigger prints, they are now up. Please ignore the red line on some of the scans, it is a crappy scanner but the prints are good. All the photos are analog, all prints (except shangai color ones) are optical prints, most of the big bxw pix are archival.

yesterday I saw so much music. two rock camp for girls bands played First Thursday, Blubird and the Revenants. Both were great. Photo above is Una Rose of Blubird.

then very randomly, Cold War Kids and Art Brut played a lunchtime mini-show at my work. Art Brut pictured above, they had amazing energy and stage presence, especially considering they had just woken up.

Oh yeah and check the new ANP Quarterly for my article about Voodoo Doughnuts. It is a rad place you should check out next time you are in town. cut and paste: www.rvcaanp.com also www.voodoodoughnuts.com
