I found the packet of photos you sent, yesterday, while cleaning up. I thought of our files of each other, and how our postal exchanges have been going on for over a decade, and how amazing and dear to me it is, all these friends I have had and known for so so long. How lucky I am to know you both.

this book showed up on my desk yesterday. it says "Take me." on the spine, and "We were meant to be together" on the front. apparently several hundred of them are hidden all over portland, for the upcoming Wordstock festival. Some have free coffee cards inside, and each one of them enters you in a drawing to win a free trip to the hometown of your favorite writer. Keep an eye out at your favorite haunts for one of these little perfect-bound beauties. And check out the festival, I'm really excited to hear Sid Miller read his poems.

birthday celebration for my dear coworker Corky...
we fufilled a longtime dream of mine by going to Ararat, the crazy russian disco on MLK, but alas apparently friday is the night to witness eurofever, not saturday. nevertheless there was much dancing and drinking and merrymaking. if anyone wants to help me achieve my goal of witnessing the friday night mayhem, please drop a line. you should be a dude, preferably tall and/or menacing looking. I know how russians roll, and the reason I haven't ever gone solo there is because I would be easy prey for certain elements who don't listen to a polite "no thanks!".

I may have spent two months travelling alone in north africa, lived in a tent in the national forest for half a year, teenaged adventuring in the sketchiest parts of manhattan pre-guliani, etc etc but I know my limits.
my five foot nothing limits.

outside Grass Hut, there was a lovely standing wave to practice your log riding on. Claire has now begun her SoCal adventure, this was the perfect precursor to it.

the paper mache curl was part of the most excellent California show that Bwana Spoons and Scrappers Morrison exhibited last month at GH, they made a lovely skateable mural too, a small detail of which you can see here:

this post goes out to all those kids I dearly love, temporarily or permanently in the golden state.
